A few years after Y2K, a group of DJs and I found ourselves at an after-hours party, listening to the “music of the day.” It didn’t take long to realize something was missing. The songs felt unimaginative—safe, recycled, and lacking the Originality that once defined the scene. Naturally, the conversation drifted back to the golden era of raving and the music that shaped it.
That’s when I said it: What if we created a definitive collection of the greatest EDM tracks of all time—like those classic Time-Life compilations you used to see on TV? Everyone was instantly on board. We decided to spend a few weeks compiling our lists—not of our personal favorites, but of the tracks that defined the era. The timeless anthems, classic bangers, the records that shaped the scene of our generation.
When we met up again, coffee in hand, we had a realization: It was going to be a long day because we had about 860 songs to go through narrowing it down to just 100 tracks was impossible. So we did what made sense—we doubled it. Song by song, we carefully curated what we believe to be the Top 200 electronic dance tracks of all time.
Choosing the tracks turned out to be the easy part. The real challenge was turning it into a seamless mix. Legendary club DJ Scoobie stepped up and said, “I’ll take a swing at it—if you guys don’t like it, someone else can take a crack at it.” What he delivered was nothing short of incredible: a 180-minute journey of flawlessly blending genres, styles, and BPMs into one cohesive experience.
We burned hundreds of these CDs and sold them at our events and sold out every time.
