Special guests Stephen Smith and Saira Peter will be sharing with us during Music Hour today (2/18) and chapel Thursday (2/20).

For more than fifteen years Northwestern alumnus and ethnomusicologist Stephen Smith (‘96) and his wife, Pakistan’s first opera singer Saira Peter BSc (Hons) MSc (Karachi) MA (London), have been building bridges through music all across South and Central Asia and MENA.

Professionally trained in both Eastern and Western classical voice, Saira is pioneering an exciting new fusion genre that combines elements of both. In the UK she directs NJ Arts London, facilitating artists from around the globe and providing vocal coaching. In Pakistan she launched the nation’s first opera academy, opened by Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Culture. Saira’s passion is to raise an army of artists committed to the glory of the Greatest Artist of all.

Most recently, music took Saira and Stephen to Saudi Arabia, a country where until only a few years ago music was entirely banned. Come and experience amazing stories of how God is opening doors for his Kingdom through music!
