I wanted to come on here and say that as of yesterday morning, I am no longer affiliated with Slam Academy. I needed to process everything before making a post, but I would like everyone to know where I stand on this. I stand in solidarity with the women speaking up, now and always.
I moved from my hometown in Indiana to the Twin Cities in 2019. Shortly after moving, COVID hit and aside from my husband, his family and friends, I didn't feel like I had much of a community here at the time. When I moved, I also left behind my music endeavors. Towards the end of COVID times, I found Slam Academy. With Slam Academy I finally felt that I had found the community I was longing for while also discovering my deepest passion - creating music and sharing the music I love with others.
My involvement with Slam was purely out of hope for creating a safe space for people to learn and grow as artists and a longing for community through music. Being a woman in the industry, and a woman in general, I want nothing more than for other women to feel safe, supported and heard.
I am truly so sorry to the women who were hurt by my involvement with Slam. Just know that I stand with you. I long for a better future for women in the scene and I know for that to happen, we must stick together.
If anyone would like to talk more about this, please do not hesitate to message me.
With love and solidarity,
Marissa (Marzanna)
