As we were traveling, we came across an elderly individual whose vehicle had gone into a ditch. They were unable to open the driver's side door, so Mike helped them safely out of the vehicle. We planned to take them home, but then we learned that a large tree (pictured) was completely blocking the road ahead, and we were told it could be up to three hours before it was cleared.
We started walking up the hill, hoping there might be a way around the tree. The individual was having difficulty breathing, when a manāon his way to help cut the treeāstopped and gave the individual a ride up the hill.
A few moments later, a woman caught up with us on foot. We learned she was a nurse technician. She stepped in to check on the individual, offering reassurance and making sure they were okay. She truly was a Godsend.
Then, two men arrived with heavy equipment and had the tree moved in just a matter of minutes and the tree trimmer made sure the elderly individual got home safely.
It was neighbors helping neighbors and everyone doing what they could to help someone in need. I am a believer that kindness and compassion are stronger than any obstacle we face.š
We are praying for those affected by the storm, and for the safety of the first responders, tree crews and those working to restore the power.
