Hi! This is where a long time hobbyist magician and sideshow lover who finally made the leap to come out of “retirement” will blabber on about things he does.
My name is R.J. and I fell in love with renaissance faires by doing close up magic in the lanes at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival when I was just a scrawny, weird, awkward teenager. I fell out of both performing magic and performing at renaissance faires for a long time but still have a love of both of those worlds to this day. Now I’m an awkward adult but definitely not scrawny, but I am now getting back in the saddle by doing a stage show at the Bluffwoods Renaissance Festival as Hawkins of Auldbar. It’s a b***y good time with things you’d have to be dumb to try and jokes to match. This is where I’ll shout in to the abyss and hope something interesting comes out of it.
Fun fact: the name Hawkins of Auldbar is an amalgamation of the names of titles of two of my ancestors that were alive during the Renaissance:
Ralph Hawkins the Mayor of Canterbury in the 1550s, the same era and town that KCRF is set in.
And the man with one of the coolest titles that ever lived: Sir Thomas Lyon of Auldbar, Master of Glamis, Lord High Treasurer of Scotland. He definitely lived up to a bad ass name because he once kidnapped James VI and lived to tell the tale.
