“John with Music by Design was the best DJ we could have asked for! He was professional, fun, and went above and beyond for us. Right before our outdoor ceremony, our glass containers for our sand unity ceremony blew off a table and shattered. When John heard about this, he worked with our best man to find replacement containers at our venue and reset the table. The table was reset so perfectly that we didn’t even notice the original containers had broken! John had a flawless system for taking song requests. With our permission beforehand, he passed out papers during dinner where anyone who wanted to, could write down song requests. He met with our wedding party and told them to mark their requests with a star so he knew to prioritize them, which we loved! In addition to this, Music by Design had an extensive online platform where we were able to input all of our important event songs, our personal song requests, and our “do not play” songs. Several days before our wedding, we had a video call with John where he went over this list with us to make sure everything was accurate. With Music by Design’s online platform and John’s thorough walk through during our video call, we were confident the music was going to be perfect! And we were right. John has a talent for reading a crowd and playing music people want to hear. There was not a single moment that our dance floor was empty. He kept people dancing for nearly 4 hours! 1999 - In February of ’99 we go fully digital…no more CD’s. Most competitors thought we were crazy, however, our tests results during 1998 proved this would eventually become cost effective. We also installed our CRM (customer relationship management) database to track and support our clients.
1993 - Music By Design, Ltd. – your custom DJ service, was born. Class, Quality, and Excellence was, and still is, our platform. No obnoxious DJs. No cheese. The years that followed were great! Explosive growth in the late 1990’s resulted in positive customer feedback and we continued to evolve. Customer referrals and complete satisfaction is what we strive to achieve.
1991 -1992 - As with every successful business, our company history begins with passion, market research, and a business plan. In doing our market research, we discovered some very interested facts. First, most DJ companies in the Chicagoland area did not even have a plan or a marketing strategy. Second, these same companies hired independent contractors, which created a lack of accountability within the industry. Finally, the majority of the DJs in the area did not know what brides and grooms really wanted. As a result, competing companies were telling clients what to buy without regard for customer demand. Clearly, the Chicagoland DJ industry was very unprofessional, cheesy, full of egos, and in some cases, very shady. Most weddings were ‘cookie cutter’ and involved the DJ wearing a costume, dancing and singing with glow sticks, blowup guitars, etc.
At this point, our opportunity to appeal to a new market was clear. We continued conducting marketing research to determine what brides and grooms really wanted out of their reception.
