We had the opportunity to tour Rising Lights Project new space and discuss some exciting upcoming ideas. They had just moved in, and after we’d been there for a while, they mentioned they didn’t have a shovel or salt—something they still needed to pick up. Meanwhile, the front sidewalk was already gathering snow and ice.

It wasn’t until after we left that the idea struck us: we could help. We reached out to Dave (the owner) at Do it Best St. Charles Hardware Store on the east side of town. He didn’t hesitate for a second. “Anytime I can… I will,” he told us. His words were simple, yet they carried the weight of genuine kindness. He generously donated a shovel and a bag of salt, even offering to deliver them himself. In the end, we picked them up so Rising Lights Project have them right away.

When we arrived with the donation, we were greeted by Jamie the founder of Rising Lights who was incredibly appreciative. Though it was just a shovel and some salt, the impact was immediate—the walkway got cleared, the ice sprinkled away, and everyone could move about safely. Moments like these remind us how even the simplest acts of kindness can brighten an entire community’s spirit.

Rising Lights Project is dedicated to ensuring that individuals with disabilities have opportunities to learn, laugh, and thrive in the Fox Valley. Their mission reminds us all that true belonging knows no barriers. And Dave from St. Charles Hardware exemplifies how local businesses can extend that sense of belonging even further.

We’re sharing this story not for praise, but because it captures the heart of genuine partnership—joining forces, looking out for each other, and transforming compassion into action. Looking ahead to 2025, we can’t wait to strengthen our bond with both St. Charles Hardware and Rising Lights Project. We have so many exciting initiatives on the horizon, and we’re on a mission to partner with more nonprofits—providing high-quality, economical printing, marketing, and branding services while always striving to go beyond.

Long after the snow has melted, we hope this story continues to inspire us all to look out for one another, one small act of kindness at a time.
