🗽🇺🇸Not just heroism, but sacrifice, courage, and the people who gave pieces of themselves so others could live freely. Thats what we honor today.

Memorial Day is more than cookouts and the start of summer. It is remembrance & deep gratitude. It is pausing long enough to recognize that freedom has always carried a cost paid by sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, friends, and loved ones who never made it home.

So today as we relax and enjoy the holiday, we remember and thank them with all of our hearts, for the freedom we enjoy.

May we honor their sacrifice not only in words, but in the way we live, love, protect one another, and appreciate the ordinary moments they helped preserve for the rest of us.

“Why do you enter photography comp? It doesn’t pay you?”🤔

Me. I enter it for me. I enter it for the teen girl I was who used to pour over Annie Leibovitz images in magazines and obsess about the way the light hit the clothing and the faces.

I enter to challenge myself this year, to see if I have grown from previous years.

I enter to compete against the best in the world and see my name listed among theirs.

But most of all I enter print and photographic competitions because I love to make myself work harder. Every image you enter can be critiqued by the best photographers of our time. Every critique I can learn from. Everything I learn makes my work that much better for both myself and my clients.

My clients receive better service and better portraits because I enter photography competitions. 👏🏻

High level photography & print competitions are mentally exhausting. Every shadow, every fabric fold, every leading line is viewed under a microscope and ripped apart. A pinky bent odd or a red that’s tinted too orange can cause a judge to bring the score down. It’s an excruciatingly beautiful process… and I love it. 💓

I went from nothing, to 55th, to 29th, to currently being ranked 26th in the world (7th in the United States). I’m so proud of the crystals that shine in my studio but I’m more proud of what I have learned and continue to learn.

This year 26th, next year… who knows! 😘🫶🏻

There’s something incredibly emotional about looking back at photos of your kids during their sports years.

Suddenly, it all comes rushing back ... the early practices, the long game days, the snacks packed in the backseat, filling water bottles before rushing out the door, cheering from the sidelines, and the overwhelming pride of watching your child finally have their moment on the field while the crowd erupts around them.

When you’re living in it, it feels nonstop. Exhausting, chaotic, all-consuming.

But one day… you’ll miss it more than you can imagine.

Because those little cleats by the door eventually disappear. The uniforms get packed away. And the child you spent years cheering for grows up and steps out into the world on their own.

That’s why these memories matter.

"Bound for Somewhere"

There’s a moment just before everything changes, where even time seems to hold its breath for you.

The train hums and hisses loudly beside her, steel and stories stretching endlessly into the distance. Her hand grips the weight of a suitcase, but it’s not the luggage that feels heavy, it’s the choice. Stay…or go. Hold on…or finally run.

Maybe it will all work out. Running towards a love she wasn’t supposed to have. The kind that lingers in letters never sent and glances that lasted just a second too long. The kind worth leaving everything behind for. Romance that she was told did not exist anymore.

Or maybe running from it is the wrong choice. From the broken silence after goodbye. From the shadow of something that once felt like forever, now reduced to fading memories of hands pulled away and stolen kisses that felt shameful. From the ache of loving deeply, and not receiving it fully in return.

The train whistle blows and steam pours.

The wind catches her hair like a friendly whisper urging her forward. Time stops, suspended in that fragile, fleeting second between past and possibility.

She lingers only a moment.
Long enough to remember.
Long enough to almost stay.

But the train calls, as it always does. It will not wait. A steel, cold vessel for all the things we cannot carry and all the things we cannot leave behind. Her fingers tighten around the handle of her single small case, as though it might steady the weight of what cannot be seen.

And we don’t get to know which path she chooses. Because sometimes the most powerful stories…are the ones we finish ourselves.🩵
