2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the Ware River Act. This piece of legislation began the process of purchasing and clearing 23,000 acres of land along the Ware River in Oakham, Rutland, Hubbardston and Barre to create what would become the Ware River Watershed. Here are some ways to explore the Ware River Watershed with the staff from the Quabbin Visitor Center and learn the history and how the land is managed today.

The Events Committee ran a Summer Send-off as students go back to school. It was funded in part by the Rutland Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. The Committee would like to thank all the organizations that provided free activities: Mass DCR, Rutland Conservation Commission, Starlight Farm, Rutland Girl Scouts, Scout Troop and Pack 141, Activate Rutland, the Agro-Eco Project, the Congregational Church and their youth group, the Library Improvement Committee and their youth group, and Holden Martial Arts. A shout out to Richie’s Ice Cream for always giving a donation when he is at our events! Another shout out to DJ Dan for providing great music and Mikes MoonWalk for two very popular inflatables!
