Something’s happening that we need to talk about. The Supreme Court is being asked to reconsider the Obergefell decision – the ruling that made marriage equality the law of the land. Kim Davis (remember her?) has filed a petition asking the court to overturn it.
Here’s what this could mean for us: If SCOTUS takes this case and reverses Obergefell, millions of LGBTQ+ couples could lose not just the right to marry, but over 1,000 federal protections that come with it. We’re talking about everything from being able to visit your spouse in the hospital, to filing joint tax returns, to inheritance rights when the unthinkable happens.
Ten years ago, love won. But our love – our families – are only as safe as we make them.
