I hate long posts. But this may be just that. For years people ask me how much longer I'm gonna stay on the road playing gigs. I always have said I would know when it's time and I would not stay in it and just fade away. I want to go out on my terms and while I'm still heavily booked. 2026 is the year that I get off the road. It's time. My last gig is October 25th, 2026. I think 46 years is long enough.
Why now? I'm tired! 😆 I'm tired of being on the road almost every weekend. Traveling roads in the middle of the night alone doesn't have any appeal to do it anymore. I don't like most of the new music now. It's a job for the younger DJs to do now. I don't have a need to be seen and heard, nor feed my ego. Never have. That's a lot of the reasons I feel it's time. I have just always enjoyed music and the joy it brings to people as well as myself. I hope somewhere along the way I have had a positive impact on some folks.
My wife has no idea what's It's like not being married to a working DJ. I was already deep in it when we met 43 years ago and 39 of that has been our marriage. Radio, Clubs, Opening for artists, weddings, wild parties, you name it and Amy has heard all of the stories. She quit traveling with me when our first daughter was born and hasn't missed it a bit.🤣 She has always encouraged me and never complained. All the while, being a perfect Mom to our three girls. She held down the home front all of those weekends I was gone. It's time for us to enjoy them and our 4 grandsons now.
You may see me around occasionally playing gigs with a band here and there. But that will be about it. So, I will roll on until October 25th, fulfilling all of the gigs on my calendar.
And one last thing before I start getting calls and messages about selling my equipment. IT'S NOT FOR SALE! I still have some plans for it.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL!
