A bride told me something once that I still think about.

Everyone wants to know step 1 of my 10-step framework. Here it is.
It's not the venue. It's not the dress. It's not even the date, technically.
Step 1 is your guest count — or at least a realistic range. Here's why: almost everything after this depends on it. Your venue size, your catering budget, your seating, even how big your bridal party feels comfortable being.
Skip this step, fall in love with a venue that only fits 80 people, and then realize your list is actually 150 — and you're starting over. Get this right first, and everything downstream gets easier.

If I could sit down with every couple the day after they get engaged, here's what I'd tell them.

You don't need to figure this out alone. And you definitely don't need to figure it out all at once.
Right now, it probably feels like there are a hundred decisions coming at you simultaneously. There aren't. There are ten that actually matter, and the rest can wait until it's their turn.
Give yourself permission to only think about one thing at a time. That's not falling behind. That's actually the fastest way through this.

Vendors aren't trying to rush you. Almost every rushed moment I've seen at a wedding wasn't a vendor being careless — it was a vendor working off a schedule that never had room for anything to run even five minutes long.
Give your vendors a realistic timeline, with real buffer built in, and they'll protect your day beautifully. Give them an unrealistic one, and everyone ends up scrambling — including you.
It's rarely the vendor's fault. It's almost always the timeline's.

After hundreds of wedding timelines, here's the pattern I keep seeing.
The couples who feel most present on their wedding day are almost never the ones with the biggest budget or the fewest guests.
They're the ones whose timeline was built around what they actually wanted to experience — not just when vendors needed to show up.
A timeline built only around logistics protects your vendors' schedules. A timeline built around your priorities protects your actual day. Those are two very different documents, even if they look similar on paper.
