I developed my BBQ sauce from his book on sauces. I was able to meet him at the 2010 national BBQ conference in Memphis when that same sauce won first place BBQ sauce (Heads Red BBQ Sauce )
Glad I was able to share a couple bourbons with him.
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and longtime Barbecue News Magazine contributor, Paul Kirk.
Affectionately known as the "Baron of Barbecue," Paul was a true giant in the world of BBQ—and a beloved part of our magazine family for over 20 years. His decades of contributions helped shape not only the pages of Barbecue News, but also the lives of thousands of cooks, competitors, and backyard enthusiasts who learned from his wisdom.
Paul was more than a pitmaster. He was a mentor, teacher, author, and encourager whose passion for barbecue was matched only by his desire to share it with others. His lessons, stories, and signature style will forever be a part of our legacy and this community.
We are grateful beyond words for the time, talent, and heart he gave so freely. Our prayers are with his family and all who called him friend. Rest easy, Paul—we’ll carry the flame from here.
