Life looks different lately, and that’s finally okay 🤍
Most weeks I shoot 1 day a week. I’m packing up my studio soon. I started filming and producing ’s new YouTube show. I’ll be heading “home” soon on the weekends— meaning while we build my dad is letting me go back to where my heart feels fully free.. my grandparents farm and the house that built me. It’s good to have roots and wings. I have no idea what the rest of my career or life look right now; it seems every day something changes, but we’re starting to see some changes in a more positive direction as of late and I am very grateful. After all, exaltation isn’t gifted to the untouched. It is earned in the wreckage. Here’s to “holding space” as they say it, for hope the next half of the year.

I don’t think I would have made it through the last 2 years without my girls & photographing such beautiful art. What started as a dinner catching up with a budding friend talking about tales of sorrow & growth turned into a mass flooding of women in my life. Some I don’t know that I even remember when they became the very best of friends, but now I could hold onto them and never let go forever. I love my husband more than anything on this planet, but a woman truly needs her girls. A problem? Solved in 25 seconds on average. 2 minutes on a slow day. And by slow day, I mean they’re all in meetings, cashing checks and top tier mommin’ hard. Small win? Never heard of them, they’d pop confetti for bowel movements. I am so fortunate to say I still talk to 3 of my best friends from high school. Every single day. It may be a quick Snapchat sometimes, but it’s every day, and it’s a lifeline to who I was combined with my friends here, that show where I’m headed. And then there’s me, the bridge between both timelines. Turning 30 next week has lead to some very profound thoughts. I’ve been going through all 15 years of my photography work. Seeing old comments and remembering the sheer amount of work I shot. Seeing who supported me brought tears. Some I’ve done their senior photos while I was a senior, then went on to shoot their wedding, their children. So while the last 2 years preparing for our next chapter have been hard af, the women in my life have created the safest home for my heart and art. I love you all. Too many to tag.

We’re approaching my 15 year business anniversary in just a few short weeks, (and I’ve been told Paige is ready to record after the baby moon so.. there will be June podcast episodes!) and I just wanted to post these two images side by side. They were shot in the same day. They were actually shot for the same business owner, just two separate brands. And they couldn’t look more different.
There is a trend going around “the propaganda I’m not be sold” and while there’s a s**t ton I refuse to be sold… this one is one of my favorites. Around the 2014-2017 era, my goodness the photography education industry was booming. This was fun, because I was so happy for resources after not having many the first 3-5 years in business. When I started, it was the turn from film to digital. We used strictly photoshop to edit, and the mentors I had were all also learning digital because they shot film. I quickly realized that there’s a difference in sharing information and creating rules for other people to follow that don’t actually exist. I quickly learned that I am the only person who makes the rules in my business, and there are 0 rules in my industry. One of the most preached subjects was to only have one editing style.
Absolutely freaking not. Never. Ever. Not the entire 15 years. Not even in the same gallery. What was once considered a taboo photography business practice is what I carved into my biggest asset; I can edit any style needed to suit your business. Sometimes leaders don’t make thousands on workshops or make it into vogue before the 15 year mark. Leaders don’t always have a million followers; sometimes, they just go first.

It’s so funny to think 12ish years ago I did NOT want to photograph families. I only wanted to photograph weddings and seniors… now, I’m retired from weddings, and I adore photographing families. 🤍

My horoscope told me to know when to break the rules, so I’m breaking them by posting my best friend’s face out of to speak life into her dreams and aspirations because she is oh so deserving of what this life has to offer 🤍 4 years in a row, she’s been voted Best of Phelp’s County’s Best Hairstylist and I couldn’t be more proud. She’s not just a stylist, she’s an artist and makes it look effortless. I love you, emotional support human 🫶 endlessly forever and ever.

Well, it’s here. After a long 8 weeks, busy season is coming to a close. I have 6 shoots and the last ever full size wedding of my career and then I will be off from shooting for 2 weeks to get caught up on editing, shoots the first week of December, and then ya girl is entering hibernation mode for the duration of 2024. It’s been a year. I’m doing my best to make every day count these next few weeks, but I’m ready for the good I know that’s coming in 2025 to be ushered in. As I’ve said so many times, I have only shared a quarter of what I’ve shot this year, so be ready. This winter will be filled with art for your feeds!

Alright clients! It is time for our first week of October update on where we are at in the editing queue-- still ahead of a 35 day schedule :) 9/14 is the date currently being edited, and I anticipate on finishing up both of those mini sessions today. I don't say this lightly when I say the next 6-8 weeks are going to be my busiest weeks of the entire year. I am always doing my best, but I would like to also remind everyone I am a one woman show-- no intern, no marketing department, no editor.. just me unless I am fortunate enough to have Britt hired along side of me to coordinate! There are still 4 weddings left to be shot, multiple days that I'm shooting at least 2 shoots a day. Be patient. :) Be kindddddd. If you need your photos sooner, there are rush passes available for purchase. HAPPY FALL Y'ALL! I think it's going to be our best one yet!

My heart is very tired. Very, very tired. I’m exhausted by a society that is expected to move on very quickly from things; one that places value in one’s ability to achieve without stopping, no matter the circumstances. My heart is tired from living in a country where it feels like both sides of our government blatantly ignore how bad it is right now. Tired of tragedy tearing apart communities, both here and far. I’ve sat back and watched a lot this year, and I have to admit it’s hard to like what I see. My business and my art are excelling tenfold and for that I’m blessed, but what about my heart? Doesn’t that matter, too? I don’t have answers. I know everything will be fine. I get it. I use my tools. But my heart is tired and there is no time for sleep in October. What’s this post about? Well, I suppose it’s a journal entry encasing my feelings. It’s not cool, it’s not glamorous and it certainly isn’t trendy, but it is honest. I’ve watched several families this week learn that the value of a photograph only increases when it’s all you have left, and it’s one of my least favorite things to watch people experience. I hope everyone is kinder going forward. To literally everyone. My deep, emotional feeling heart wants nothing more than peace for all. So, there’s the post. Sorry if it’s not as cool as you’d expect, but I’m growing weary of cool. I want real and authentic. ✌️
