What makes the City of Rocky Mount, NC Gov. Offices and our community truly special here in the Tar River Region of Eastern North Carolina is the way we come together—without hesitation—for worthy and critically important causes. Recently, our great friends, the brave and dedicated First Responders from the Rocky Mount Fire Department and the Rocky Mount, NC Police Department answered the community service call once again, joining forces with our Rocky Mount Event Center team and Tonia Grimsley, MPH, Development Director for the North Carolina American Heart Association. Together, we brought to life the first-ever Battle of the Badges, a truly special event that culminated in some fun, fierce and competitive camaraderie, which also raised awareness and support for the vital and life-saving work of the American Heart Association.

Special thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to make Battle of the Badges an amazing event: Impultz Entertainment, the Bishop Spirit Cheerleading team at North Carolina Wesleyan University, Jordan Little and the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, Secretary Eddie Buffaloe with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Phillip Conyers, Devin Mooring, and AK The Voice.

We’re still smiling from the Battle of the Badges! The energy, teamwork, and community spirit from our local first responders lit up the courts — from basketball and volleyball to pickleball and dodgeball.

Our Rocky Mount Event Center team is proud to have partnered with the Rocky Mount Fire Department and Rocky Mount, NC Police Department in support of the American Heart Association. Together, we proved that when our community comes together, we can make a big impact.

We cannot begin to thank the Rocky Mount Fire Department and the Rocky Mount, NC Police Department for going all in at this year’s Battle of the Badges. From basketball and volleyball to pickleball and dodgeball , our first responders gave it their all on the courts.

A special shoutout to Tonia Grimsley and the North Carolina Wesleyan University Cheerleaders for keeping the energy high and bringing the spirit all night long! In addition, thank you to Impultz Entertainment.

The Rocky Mount Fire Department Brought the Heat!

Battle of the Badges was one for the books! In a game full of energy, heart, and community spirit, the Rocky Mount Fire Department came out on top against the Rocky Mount, NC Police Department, taking the trophy back to the firehouse.

But the real win? Together, we raised money for the American Heart Association, supporting their life-saving mission to build healthier lives for all.

A huge thank you to everyone who showed up, cheered, and donated. This event was more than just a competition — it was a celebration of unity, service, and giving back.

Rocky Mount, NC Police Department and Rocky Mount Fire Department brought the HEAT to our pickleball courts on Friday night! 🔥 A huge THANK YOU to our amazing pickleball instructor, Joel Batchelor, for stepping in to referee an epic showdown! It was competitive, fun, and filled with great sportsmanship, exactly what pickleball is all about!
