Hi! Margarita here! 👋

When my husband, Andy, and I started MasPanadas, we weren’t trying to create just another food brand. We were trying to solve a problem we had in our own home. 💛 With three boys, busy careers, soccer games, and carpools, life was moving fast, and we needed delicious, convenient food that could keep up with us. MasPanadas grew from that need, my Colombian roots, and our shared love of really good food.

What started as a solution for our family has grown into something we now get to share with yours.🥟💛 I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported MasPanadas from the beginning and continues to cheer us on.

Our Hispanic Heritage Month empanada tour continues! Next stop: Bolivia 🇧🇴

In Bolivia, one of the most beloved versions of the empanada is the salteña, known for its golden baked dough and flavorful, juicy filling. 🥟

Unlike many empanadas that are fried, salteñas are baked and traditionally filled with a savory mixture of beef or chicken, potatoes, peas, hard-boiled egg, onion, broth, and spices.

What really makes the salteña special is what’s inside. The filling is prepared with broth, creating a rich, almost stew-like center tucked inside the pastry.

Across Latin America, every country brings its own ingredients, techniques, and traditions to the empanada, and Bolivia’s salteña is another delicious example.

Next stop on our Hispanic Heritage Month empanada tour: El Salvador! 🇸🇻

While Colombian empanadas are often known for their crispy corn dough and savory fillings, Salvadoran empanadas take things in a sweeter direction. They’re traditionally made from ripe plantains, filled with refried beans or creamy poleada, and finished with a dusting of sugar. The result is a sweet-and-savory treat enjoyed as an afternoon snack and at special gatherings.

From Colombia to El Salvador, the ingredients may change, but the tradition of bringing people together around good food remains. ❤️

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re celebrating the many cultures, traditions, and flavors behind one of our favorite foods: the empanada!

First stop: Colombia 🇨🇴, home of MasPanadas founder, Margarita Womack.

Colombian empanadas are often made with corn dough, fried until beautifully golden and crispy, then filled with savory ingredients like seasoned beef, chicken, potato, rice, or cheese. Flavors like cumin, achiote, garlic, onion, tomato, and fresh cilantro bring each bite to life...and, of course, a little ají on the side for an extra kick. 🌶️
