Hey lookit me. My name’s Mauricio, for those who don’t know. ⁠

My last wedding related post was kindof a while ago. The ironic thing is that I’ve had a lot more time on my hands to post content with the whole Pandemic of it all, but instead I’ve mostly been focusing on improving myself as a husband and a dad, and just like, not working 80 hours a week! Inside my house, things have honestly been pretty much amazing, which seems weird to say.. ⁠

However, to attempt to recap the sh*t-show that has been 2020-World would be to write an exhaustively long and unpleasant string of unbelievable human failures, incompetent leadership, a deranged epistemological crisis and just a massive stack of emergencies cascading on top of eachother with not enough heroes to fix things. ⁠

The good news is that every single day, you can choose to be okay. You can even choose to be a good person if you want. ⁠

Where We Got Our Name

“THE GOODFOLK FILM COMPANY”. Name’s kind of a mouthful I guess? But the story of where we got the name is simple enough.

WHEN I FIRST STARTED shooting lots of weddings, I would wake up the next day after a shoot and my wife would ask me how went.

“It was insanely cool, and everybody there seemed like SUCH GOOD FOLK,” was a phrase I would almost always use to describe a somewhat ineffable feeling of being surrounded by GOODNESS. Goodness is often found at weddings, and it’s that goodness that we try to find with our cameras, microphones, lights, eyeballs and ears.

This looks like such an amazing production! I’ve personally always found it interesting when a film is shot on location in order to grip you more in reality and make you feel as though the setting has its own sense of place and personality. I can think of this happening in a litany of films but perhaps the film that does this the best in my opinion is a 1993 independent film by Victor Nunez called “Ruby in Paradise” in the film a young woman named Ruby moves to Panama City in order to escape her past and become her own person, throughout the film she struggles with financial independence, romance, and adulthood. All the while Nunez does an outstanding job at bringing the setting to life. This movie is intensely personal and human and I think in times like these it is quite inspirational and relatable. “Ruby in Paradise” will be available on February 16th via GooglePlay and many other Streaming platforms.
I'm not crying, you're crying! Take a look at this highlight film from Virginia and David's wedding on July 6, 2019. Incredible job by all involved.
