R.I.P. to the great Phil Lesh.

My life, and understanding of it and experiences of the world would be dramatically different without him and The Grateful Dead.

It’s been a long strange trip together and I am so happy and blessed to have seen him perform many times, including with the proper Grateful Dead in my early teens and lastly, just in Marshfield, MA at Levitate Fest just 2 years ago.

Box of Rain is a critical song for me. It has been everywhere with me on my journey and is part of my “Philosophy of Song” playlist of music I have been focusing on as the important, foundational songs that are personally worth it to me to learn and try to master and perform and share. We have to keep them alive. I just recently been working on it for the past few weeks and studying it…I hope to get it to the place where I can do it justice live and not some shotty, half-assed knock-off. There is a depth and nuance needed to even attempt the song with any degree of credibility. If any is sacred, it is, and it was one of the many great contributions of Phil….the music was Phil’s, with lyrics by Robert Hunter which Phil asked him to write for his dying father…❤️

My open mic is OVER at The Banner.

Last Wednesday was our last dance…

From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank everyone who made it such an awesome night!!!

Thank you to all of the players and their families and friends who came out, all of the musicians who came through, and especially to Michelle behind the bar!

We have had a great but short run there, and “the last dance” last Wednesday was really fantastic and special!!! I will never forget it.

My buddy finally secured appointments with the foremost medical experts that could potentially change his life, and help him avert the suffering he endures from hemophilia.

Maxwell Feinstein is someone who should be creating, engineering and producing his brilliant music, a great artist and visionary, an inventor and producer, a master of ambient textures and someone who lives life more ferociously and authentically than most could ever dream…someone who is an advocate raising the profile of the need for research and awareness of hemophilia and what it means to those suffering with this unfamiliar condition…while producing new sounds, original grooves, while being a decent individual…a distinct but very decent prototype of what we can be…

He’s finally able to see the absolute best doctors and experts and going to the Mayo Clinic. It’s expensive despite his insurance. If they can help him, he can make more amazing music for us and support others in making their music. Can you please help him, even with any small amount?

Max is also an amazing inventor of my favorite pedal on my effects board…the Tape-O-Neg “artisinal noise enhancer”! He’s also going through legal BS defending his patents.
