Last night, I walked by the Briggs mansion site. That’s where I met Gordy and Annette, walking their dog and sifting through the rubble of the house where they raised their kids.

Gordy told me stories from their 25 years there, and stories of his mother living there the generation before.

Gordy searched to find the right brick to give each of his kids, and Annette took photos of what remained. People who maybe didn’t know quite what to do, other than to come back and carry something home. Proof that it all happened. Proof that it mattered.
