❤❤ With Valentine's Day coming fast, here are a few tricks of the trade to get the most out of your flowers and the best bang for your buck! ❤❤
❤ Don't use online flower services.
1-800 Flowers, Ava's Flowers, PROFlowers, and even FTD outsource their orders to be filled by the florists in your area. Here's the catch though - a portion of your money goes to the service instead of the florists. This means that out of the $100 you spend on an arrangement, by the time the florist figures out how much the service takes and how much their own stuff costs - only about $55/60 of flowers goes into it.
If you're sending flowers out of your area - your best bet is looking up a florist in the area you want to send and talking to them directly. Using a wire-in/wire-out service is expensive and like online orders will leave you with an arrangement that is lack-luster to how much you spent.
Even if the online service does direct deliver - they will leave your arrangement in a box on your porch. And if it's below freezing? Your flowers will be dead. They are a delivery service and unlike a local florist they will not call and make sure that you're home to receive it.
❤ Talk to your florist about proper flower care!
There are many instances where someone orders flowers and within 48 hours they are wilting or dead. 9 times out of 10 it has nothing to do with the quality of the flower you were sold. Florists know that every flower has certain needs that have to be met - and simply cutting the stems once and throwing a packet of food in the water is not necessarily sufficient for those flowers to last. Some flowers don't like direct sunlight, some don't do well without multiple water changes, either way your florist will know exactly what to do to make sure that your flowers last a long time.
Basic Care Tips:
Please do not leave your flowers in your car or garage if the temperature is going to dip below freezing. Flowers generally are placed in a cooler for longevity, but once they get frozen there is nothing that will bring them back.
Do not put them in a refrigerator with fruit. Fruit produces gas as it ripens which will cause your flowers to die very quickly.
Cut about 1/2 an inch off the bottom at an angle and get them into water as soon as possible. Especially roses, which drink a lot. Cool/cold temperature water will keep your roses from opening quickly. If they aren't open at all - warm water will open them, but then make sure to switch to cold.
❤❤ Your best bet is to always go directly to your florist. Shop local. Not only will they know everything you need to make your flowers last, but they are the one's who do the design work. They will know what looks beautiful together, what is more expensive, and also how to make sure that you get something that's unique and worth every dollar you spend. ❤❤
