Gabrielle Revlock is coming to town and offering an open community workshop on Oct. 13 from 6-9pm.
Gabrielle Revlock, MFA is a New York City–based dance artist and educator whose work is influenced by postmodern dance, experimental theater, conceptual art, and compassionate communication. In her performances she often isolates and contrasts specific moods, themes, behaviors, and visual ideas to create moments of absurdity, joy, humor, surprise, and empathy. In 2020 she received a New York Dance and Performance ("Bessie") Award for Outstanding Breakout Choreographer for her interactive performance Nuptial Blitz and the intimate duet S*X TAPE.
Working at the intersection of wellness and creativity, Revlock is the creator of Restorative Contact, a mindful touch and movement practice informed by Contact Improvisation and contemplative movement traditions. A practitioner of Contact Improvisation for nearly twenty-five years, she regularly teaches at international festivals, Earthdance, Movement Research, and community-based programs. In 2026 she was a co-producer of the NYC Contact Improvisation Festival. Her invited chapter, "The Therapeutic Applications of Contact Improvisation," appears in Resistance and Support: Contact Improvisation @ 50 (Oxford University Press, 2024). Her research has also been presented at CI@50, the Embodiment Conference, the Dance & Somatics Conference, the Future of Contact Improvisation Conference, and the National Conference on Community and Restorative Justice, where she explores how touch, improvisation, and embodied attention contribute to grounding and nervous system regulation.
Revlock's choreography has been presented nationally and internationally, including at New York Live Arts, the American Dance Festival, the Queens Museum, and in Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, Hungary, Russia, and India. Her creative residencies include Dance Omi, Chez Bushwick, Abrons Art Center, The Croft Residency, Catwalk Artist Residency, New Dance Alliance's LiftOff Creative Process and Project, and Culture Mill in cooperation with the American Dance Festival. As a performer, she has danced for Lucinda Childs, Makini (jumatatu m. poe), David Gordon, Susan Rethorst, Jane Comfort, Susan Marshall, Vicky Shick, Bill Young, and others.
As an educator, Revlock has taught contemporary dance forms at Smith College, Hampshire College, Amherst College, and was the 2026 artist-in-residence at Kenyon College. She is also a restorative justice practitioner, integrating principles of listening, accountability, and equity into her teaching, facilitating, and creative practices. She holds a BA in Art History from Vassar College, an MFA in Dance from Smith College, and a Certificate in Restorative Justice Facilitation from the University of San Diego.
