🥃🔥 THE STORY BEHIND THE WH***EY, THE MUSIC, THE CHAOS… AND THE PEOPLE WHO GAVE IT A HEARTBEAT. 🔥🥃

We are SO excited to unveil our latest Rochester Woman Online Magazine COVER STORY featuring Jen & Tommy Brunett of Iron Smoke Distillery!

If you think you know the Iron Smoke story, you may be surprised by what’s behind those doors.
This isn’t simply a story about building a successful wh***ey brand. It’s about a husband and wife who took an idea, colored WAY outside the lines, adapted when things didn’t go according to plan—and somehow created something much bigger than either of them originally imagined.

🎸 Wh***ey.
🎶 Music.
🔥 Creativity.
❤️ Marriage and family.
🥃 A little rebellion.
😂 A LOT of humor.
💪 And the determination to keep going when quitting might have been easier.

When Iron Smoke’s tasting room opened in 2018, Jen and Tommy envisioned something more like a Finger Lakes winery experience—come in, taste the products, enjoy a cocktail and maybe hold an occasional event.

Then opening weekend happened.
Hundreds of people showed up.
People started calling asking when the next band was playing and which food trucks were coming next.
And just like that, the plan changed. 😂

Iron Smoke evolved into a bar, tasting room, concert venue, retail and event space—and ultimately a destination where people didn't just come for wh***ey. They came to belong.

Tommy summed it up perfectly:
❤️ “We built the room, but the community gave it a heartbeat.”
In this cover story, Jen and Tommy take us behind the brand and get incredibly candid about entrepreneurship, marriage, raising a family while building a business, taking risks, crazy ideas, failures, sacrifices and the reality behind what people often see as “success.”
And there are some GREAT stories. 😂

Like why there’s a giant Iron Smoke logo on one particular glass window. Hint: according to Tommy, “That’s not branding. That’s public safety.” 😂

Or the surreal night Jimmy Fallon walked into Iron Smoke and eventually ended up onstage playing Tommy’s white Gretsch guitar with him.

But some of our favorite moments have nothing to do with celebrities.
Their kids, Cash and Jagger, practically grew up inside Iron Smoke—riding scooters through the distillery while Mom and Dad built a company. People have met inside those walls and later gotten married. Families have celebrated milestones. Benefits have helped people through incredibly difficult times. Musicians have taken the stage. Friendships have formed. Memories have been made.

And somewhere along the way, a wh***ey business became part of people's lives.

Jen perhaps describes their journey best when she talks about taking that first chance:
“There is never a right time, never enough money, and being courageous doesn’t mean you don’t have to be scared.”

And Tommy leaves us with one of our favorite lines from the entire interview:

This holiday season, Sit. Stay. Sip. is returning to Iron Smoke Distillery with a mission: fill an entire bus with supplies and raise funds to help Buddy Love Dog Rescue care for dogs waiting for their forever homes. ❤️

Bring new or gently used dog and cat supplies—food, treats, toys, beds, blankets, crates, leashes, collars, bowls and more. Every item helps Buddy Love provide for animals in its care. Donate supplies and receive free raffle tickets for a chance to win one of our baskets! 🎟️

You can also meet adoptable puppies and dogs, shop local vendors,plus there will have a tattoo artist onsite, enjoy great food and drinks from our food truck, a dirty soda truck and the PIT bbq and Iron Smoke drinks of course too. Then you can stop by our festive holiday photo area with your pet too and buy raffles for over 25 incredible baskets! Come for the fun and you just might meet your new best friend! 🐶🎄

We’re proud to partner again with Vanessa’s Lasting Legacy Ltd. to make this a day of giving, fundraising and finding forever homes. They help provide food and supplies to area veterans, elderly, disabled and homeless so that they can keep their pets with them.

I’m so excited to bring Conversations with Kelly LIVE to the Barrel Room at Iron Smoke Distillery on Sunday, October 18! Joining me will be Mrs. New York America Jessica Fabus Cheng and her platform, Bravery Loves Company. 💗

From 12–5 PM, women will take their seats at our live roundtable to share their stories, experiences, challenges, businesses, and the lessons they’ve learned along the way. Imagine being surrounded by women who are listening, cheering you on, and celebrating your courage to speak up. That’s the kind of room we’re creating.

This is a twist on the usual women’s empowerment event. The conversations are the heart of the day, with a select group of women and women owned businesses that share our vision joining us.
