Here for the lisianthus until the end of time! So sad their season is almost over, but savoring every last moment with them! Their blooms are stunning and their longevity is even more impressive! Long live the lisis!

Ok, y'all. We had a week, so here's some beautiful Dara for you! It has exceeded all my expectations and has really become one of my very most favorite flowers in the field. Candidly, I am a sucker for dark, saturated colors, so this is definitely screaming my name! Also, the smell on this flower is divine!!
🌸
We started these seeds in our high tunnel, in January, in ziploc bags! Proof that the ziploc bag method works well! I also directly seeded some right away this Spring and those are looking beautiful as well!
🌸
Hoping for a whole bed of this next year! Are you loving Dara as much as me!?

Literally obsessed and marigolds having the moment they deserve! They are so stunning! Their rich color screams fall, but has worked so well in bouquets all summer. Their stems are absolutely gorgeous, along with their smell! I'm definitely team marigold and adding so many more next year!

Me and this cutie have been having the best summer in the garden. Her practices are a bit unorthodox, but with time, she'll become a great helper...or keep pulling the heads of flowers off...one of those!
🌸
While I was out cutting a large order this morning, you could feel the coolness in the air. Fall is coming and with it, all the dahlias. Feeling a bit bittersweet as this momma isn't sure she's ready for having a big 2 year old! Hanging onto every drop of summer we can!

Get real! Every year, I wonder how Sandia Bliss is real and she is constantly taking my breath away! The perfection of this waterlily dahlia is just too much for me! Perfect blooms, perfect stems, and super healthy plants! Three buckets of dahlias last night and we didn't even make through all the rows! It's all happening!

Unhinged dahlia discussions: episode 3! On today's episode, we discuss dahlia stock and the importance of buying from good sellers! There is nothing more frustrating than spending your hard earned money on a dahlia tuber or cutting you've been dying to get your hands on. You baby said tuber and cutting, watch it for approximately 90 days, and then as it begins to bloom, horror unfolds: it's not what you actually bought. It's a mislabel. After all that time and effort, you're now left with a dahlia you probably didn't really want.
🌸
This is why it's so important to choose your sellers wisely. Accidents do happen, we're all human, but for me and this particular dahlia, I've just had too many bad experiences from this seller. We're done buying from this farm. Now, I have to spend time figuring out what's actually growing. I recommend joining Facebook groups regarding sellers. You'll see a trend with the not so great ones, that's for sure.
🌸
Along the same vein, you want to purchase from sellers that have good stock. Genetics in dahlias can breakdown. When that happens, you may experience blown centers, or just not the dahlia you thought you'd have.
🌸
Anywho, allow me to get off my soapbox now and continue enjoying my blooms.

Episode 2 of unhinged dahlia discussions! Featuring, everyone's least favorite dahlia growing problem: powdery mildew! Last year, I tried everything to get my PM under control and failed miserably. I was even out "milking" my dahlias with a 50/50 whole milk and water combo hoping that would break the fungus. It did not and I wasted gallons of milk in the process. The PM was too far advanced and severely impacted the health of our dahlias - we had terrible flowers and even worse tuber production.
🌸
This year, we've stayed FAR ahead of the PM by using milstop with my flashy green backpack sprayer. Also, do yourself and your back and favor and just buy the backpack sprayer with a battery. You'll breeze through foliage spraying and your body will thank you!
🌸
Another way to curb that pesky mildew? Remember to strip those bottom leaves, friends! Air flow is critical to healthy plants!

Alternative names for this series could have been: "progression of my double chin (I'm pregnant, leave it alone) OR progression of my hair getting more and more wild." EITHER WAY, welcome to unhinged dahlia discussions! A series where I tell you all the things I wish I knew prior to growing dahlias! Starting the series off: staking/netting your dahlias! Featuring: River Merle Farm 's "Smokeshow!" And wow. She is stunning! 12/10 recommend growing!

Just a girl, her golf cart, and her field of flowers. The way the Lisianthus and statice have a hold on me!

The lisianthus are absolutely stunning. That's it. That's the whole post. No, but really, we are going to quadruple our lisianthus alone next year! I will never get over how beautiful they are, their vase life, or just the thrill of seeing all their frills in the field!
