Pepitas!!

We have gone through a lot of pumpkin & squash. I've been saving seeds of our favorites to grow out in the gardens next year. But you can only grow so many. I've challenged myself to shell and roast off the rest 😊 It will be fun to use them in recipes this winter

Removing the shells is a tedious process made easier with a cup of hot coco & a good holiday movie

They puffed up so perfectly πŸ™

It's that time of the year again for the ladies!
Their annual molt has begun πŸͺΆπŸͺΆ

As the days grow shorter it triggers their bodies to prepare for winter. The first step is usually out with the old and in with a new set of feathers to get them through the cold winter months. You can see their shaggy appearance in the video 😊 During this time they also halt egg production and can lose a bit of weight. To ensure that they grow thick & healthy feathers, we give them extra protein

Their frittata consisted of cooked eggs with crushed up shells, a handful of bacon scraps, oatmeal & red pepper flakes

There has been a little change in plans. We will not be at the indoor market this year. But we WILL be permanent vendors next year at the outdoor, Saturday Rochester Farmers Markets May-October πŸ™Œ

We are officially closed for the season! THANK YOU to everyone who came out to eat with us this year and to all of the businesses that hosted us. It was so fun seeing old friends and making new ones

We'll be spending our break working on some fun, new ideas for next year. Until then, we wish you all a fantastic holiday season & new year 🌻

We work extra hard during the growing season to preserve any extras for use in the off season. The plants have succumbed to frost but we are still able to use our own hyssop, sage & basil. These will be featured in the pesto and soup this weekend 🌻

I love growing lemongrass but seldom have the perfect environment for it. It usually gets planted last and wherever I can find room. This year I planted ours in a 30 gallon Smart Pot in the middle of the backyard and it did quite well πŸ™Œ Go little rockstar!

It's finally time for pumpkin muffins!!! This year they'll be served with a vanilla cream cheese frosting πŸ˜ƒ You can get yours this weekend at the Rochester Farmers Markets

We didn't have enough space to grow our own pumpkins this year so we spent a lovely autumn afternoon at Sekapp Orchard and loaded up on pumpkins, other assorted squash and (of course) apples πŸπŸŽπŸŽƒ
