My husband knows the difference between water hemlock and Queen Anne’s lace…
so if I die, it’s definitely on purpose. 💀🌿

Just a friendly reminder to stay safe while hiking in Southwest Virginia... because the Blue Ridge Creek Crabs are apparently evolving. 🦀😂
My husband is somewhere in the background insisting, “That’s a crawdad.”
Absolutely not.
It’s clearly a Blue Ridge Creek Crab, and he’s only arguing because I found it first. 🤷‍♀️
Now settle this for us...
What would YOU call this little blue critter?
🦀 Blue Ridge Creek Crab
🦞 Crawdad
🦞 Crawfish
🦞 Crayfish
🤔 Something else?
Drop your answer below (bonus points if you can convince my husband). 😂

The Chickens are back!

We found her alone, cold, and shaking — no sign of mom, fresh roadkill right up the road. We waited all day but then assumed the worst.
In that moment, we made the call to pick her up, thinking she was orphaned.
We kept her warm, quiet, and off-camera while we called local wildlife experts for advice.
We learned something huge: fawns are often left alone on purpose even ALL DAY.
Mom stays away to avoid drawing predators.
But if you do pick one up? Don’t panic.
Stay calm, keep her safe, and return her to the exact spot. We were told to cover her in clover to hide smell.
In many cases, mom will come back — like she did here!! We are pleased to report mom and baby have been reunited—- but you can leave my Orchard now and snack elsewhere. Thanks for visiting 🙏😅
This isn’t a “rescue” — it’s a reunion.
And now we know better.
If you find a fawn:
✅ Stay back and watch from a distance
✅ Don’t touch unless absolutely necessary
✅ If you do, return her quickly and quietly
✅ Give mom time — she may be closer than you think
Nature is resilient — but it needs us to get the story right.
