As the kids have gotten older, the opportunities to take the type of photos I once took has lessened. Prior to quarantine, life was busy...busy with school, activities, and afterschool activities. It was about rush here and rush there. It was how I thought life was supposed to be.
But then Covid-19 came and brought us to a screeching halt. It began as a time of great uncertainty for what this virus would do to us as a population. So, we quarantined and new struggles began...different struggles. But, as time continued on, we adapted. That is what we do. Was it challenging? Yes. Were there positive things that came from our new way of life. Yes.
For me, the time was a gift. It was an opportunity to be more present in my kid's lives. It was an opportunity to sit down and spend quality time with them. It was a time to talk with them leisurely and really get to know them. Did I talk to them and get to know them before? Of course. But, it wasn't the same. This was different. I feel like God personally handed this time to me and said, "Use it wisely". I listened.
Do my children view this time the same way I do? No. They might not necessarily view it the same way now- of course, they miss all their friends and their activities, but I know they have appreciated the opportunity to stay up later than normal, sleep in later than usual, and do more family activities.
This time hasn't been without disappoinments, though. For my 8th grader, she missed the opportunity to go to the playoffs for basketball. That was a huge blow! She missed out on many 8th grade/grad things that she had really been looking forward to...just like every other graduate. But, she will definitely have a story to tell her children and grandchildren. Keeping our fingers crossed that this doesn't happen again in her lifetime, she will be part of a unique group that will be known as the Quarantine Graduates. Her class will always be remembered for that.
So, as she works her way through final exams this week, I wanted to share these photos with you. You have all watched her grow up on this page, and now she has reached a new milestone. Next year, she will begin high school and the beautiful journey will continue...β€οΈ
