Thank you to Jack Sanders for this "political" photo by Clarence "Korky" Korker, c. 1952. The House had been purchased by the Town of Ridgefield seven years earlier and was mainly unused, although it served as a beautiful location for campaign headquarters in the November 1952 national election.

A special two-part talk & walk program exploring 'Here Lyes Ye Body', presented by the Ridgefield Historical Society and Lounsbury House on Sun., Oct. 12, 1:00-2:30pm, will introduce some fascinating characters and families, all now permanent residents of Ridgefield.

Step into the past for a spellbinding afternoon of history, storytelling, and discovery as acclaimed broadcaster and poet Ira Joe Fisher interviews local historian and author Jack Sanders about his fascinating book, Here Lyes Ye Body. Sanders will share insights on our historic cemeteries and forgotten tales of generations past.

Copies of Here Lyes Ye Body are available in advance at Books on the Common and also available for purchase at the door. Attendees may have them signed after the program.

Jack Sanders will lead a walk through the six cemeteries that make up the cemetery (bounded by North Salem Road, Mapleshade Road and North Street in Ridgefield) on Monday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. He’ll point out notable graves and tell the stories of their “owners.” The rain date for the walk is Saturday, Oct. 18, 10 a.m-12 p.m. Participants should expect a mile of walking over uneven lawn. Please carpool and park at Mapleshade Cemetery (entrance at North Street/Mapleshade Road).

Ridgefield’s Historic Lounsbury House

Lounsbury House, a Ridgefield landmark since 1896, is the perfect place to celebrate life’s memorable events. This stately mansion, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1896 by Phineas Lounsbury, a former Governor of Connecticut. In 1953, the town acquired the property from the Lounsbury heirs, and is now operated as Ridgefield’s Community Center which provides cultural and philanthropic activities for the benefit of the town, and for private events - all while maintaining the historical integrity of the property.

Private rentals may include the entire mansion and grounds for weddings, birthday parties, reunions, fundraising festivities, art shows, food festivals and more.

Upon entering the house, you are greeted at The Main Hall which leads to our Ballroom, Dining Room, Crystal Room and Kitchen, all located on the main floor. The Grand Staircase then brings you to our second level which includes a Grand Foyer, The Bridal Room, The Groom’s Room, Conference Room and Meeting Room. Every room can also be rented and reserved individually with personalized service depending on your needs.

For an appointment to view Lounsbury House, or for further information, please call us at 203-438-6962. We will do everything possible to make your experience at Lounsbury House a magical moment you will never forget!
