Let that sink in. The part that voted to keep child marriage.
Oklahoma just banned child marriage. Thirty-six Republicans voted to keep it legal.
Senate Bill 504 closes the loopholes that let children as young as 16 marry with parental consent, and younger children marry with a judge's approval, sometimes because they were pregnant. It passed the Senate unanimously. In the House, it barely survived, 51 to 36. Every single "no" vote came from a Republican.
Their reasons on the record: parental rights, government overreach, and in more than one case, the Bible. One lawmaker invoked the marriage of Mary and Joseph. Another argued the bill was really about socialism. Meanwhile, more than 3,400 minors were married in Oklahoma between 2000 and 2021, mostly girls to adult men, according to Unchained At Last.
Thirty-six elected Republican officials looked at a bill to stop adults from legally marrying children and said no. Not a hypothetical. Not a talking point. A recorded vote, on the record, in 2026.
This is the party that claims to stand for family values and protecting children. The receipts say otherwise. Know who's voting for what, and hold them to it.
