🌟 Proud Announcement from The Woman’s Club of Richmond at Bolling Haxall House 🌟

We are thrilled to announce Anna Roberts as our 2026 Mary Munford Scholar!
Anna, a dedicated young leader from Richmond, has already shown extraordinary promise through her research internship at the VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center. Using immunofluorescence technology, she examined mitochondria in tissue samples to help understand why African American males experience higher cancer mortality rates.

What began as a scientific opportunity became a defining personal mission. Anna came to see that health disparities are shaped not only by biology, but by deep social, economic, and historical inequalities. That realization ignited her passion to become a physician committed to health equity in underserved communities.
Growing up in Richmond, Anna has witnessed how opportunities in education and healthcare can differ dramatically from one neighborhood to the next. She plans to major in biology and premed at James Madison University, building a strong foundation for medical school and a career dedicated to lifting up those who need it most.

The Mary Munford Scholarship honors the remarkable legacy of Mary-Cooke Branch Munford, a founding member and early president of The Woman’s Club who devoted her life to expanding educational opportunity and strengthening communities across Richmond. Anna’s commitment to using science and medicine as tools for justice beautifully continues that vision.

Anna shared that The Woman’s Club’s dedication to supporting local causes “resonates deeply” with her. We are so proud to stand beside her on this journey.

Congratulations, Anna! The future is brighter because of young women like you who turn curiosity into compassion and research into real change. We can’t wait to see all you will accomplish. 💙🩺

🌟 Proud Announcement from The Woman’s Club of Richmond at Bolling Haxall House 🌟

We are delighted to announce Reese Minter as our 2026 Mary Munford Scholar!

From a young age, Reese was surrounded by the joy of learning. Her mother, a teacher, turned summers into opportunities for growth — filling days with math problems, word sorts, and daily reading. That foundation sparked a lifelong love of learning and a determination to challenge herself at every step.

Reese has consistently chosen the most rigorous courses, understanding that academic excellence opens doors. While she has held herself to the highest standards, she has never lost sight of the bigger picture: using her education and leadership skills to serve others.

Reese’s goal is clear and inspiring. She plans to attend college and dental school, then open her own private practice focused on community-centered care. She dreams of hosting free dental clinics and advocating for oral health education so that everyone — regardless of background — can smile with confidence and care for their health.

Reese’s vision of turning personal achievement into meaningful service beautifully reflects the legacy of Mary-Cooke Branch Munford, a founding member and early president of The Woman’s Club who believed deeply in the power of education to strengthen individuals and communities.

This scholarship will help Reese turn her dream into reality and serve others in the way they truly deserve. We couldn’t be prouder.

Congratulations, Reese! Your dedication, leadership, and heart for community make us excited for the difference you will make — one smile at a time. 🦷✨💙

This spring, The Woman’s Club of Richmond continued its proud tradition of supporting five outstanding young women from the Metro Richmond area as they pursue their college dreams.

It is our pleasure to introduce one of our 2026 scholarship recipients, 🎉Kyria Martinez🎉.

Kyria is a recent graduate of St. Gertrude High School and will be a rising freshman at Shenandoah University, where she plans to major in biology on her path to becoming a licensed physician assistant (PA).

Kyria’s passion for healthcare grew from her own experience navigating health insurance challenges — an issue she saw affecting so many others without support. While excelling in Advanced Placement courses and competing on her school’s track team, she also worked part-time as a swim instructor at the YMCA. There, she not only taught children how to swim but helped them build confidence and self-esteem — skills that will serve her well as a compassionate healthcare provider.

Kyria’s goal is to become a physician assistant who serves her community with empathy, supports those who need it most, and acts as a role model for other young women interested in STEM careers.

Congratulations, Kyria! 🎉 We are so proud to support you and look forward to watching you make a meaningful difference.

The Woman’s Club of Richmond has been empowering women and strengthening our community for generations — right here at the historic Bolling Haxall House.
