Boy meets girl and asks her to a Candlelight Concert at the Bolling Haxall House. They hit it off and fall in love.

When Jordan decided it was time to take another step, he returned to our historic House to ask his girlfriend Han to marry him. Jordan pulled out all the stops to stage the house like a Candlelight Concert, creating a mock event site and finding a friend to play the piano early in the afternoon on a summer Tuesday. With a proposal like that, naturally Han said yes!

Congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple from the staff of the Bolling Haxall House. We hardly could keep the secret.

Wonderful for weddings and perfect for proposals - the Bolling Haxall House makes your memories timeless.

Bolling Walker Haxall hired two talented builders, Scottish immigrant brothers, George and John Gibson to construct the Bolling Haxall House. In their memory and in honor of Preservation Month, we’re sharing some of the detailed woodwork that distinguish the house as a rare gem of the 1850s.

From the dramatic and curving, walnut staircase to the crests carved above windows, doors and bookcases, the Gibson brothers’ craftsmanship created what remains striking and special about the house.

The Woman’s Club is honored to have preserved this Richmond treasure for 125 years. Reach out to us at [email protected] to make your next event one for the ages.

The cast iron fencing in front of the Bolling Haxall House features an intricate circular vine design. The work is attributed to George Lowndes, Richmond’s master ironworker, who signed an identical fence in Hollywood Cemetery. The fence is set in granite and topped with a border of rosettes surmounted by a border of anthemions, the Greek decorative pattern repeated in the auditorium wallpaper. This is just a portion of the wrought and cast iron found around the house.

Consider making the Bolling Haxall House a part of your history.
