Our hearts are heavy as we share the news that Bunky, the beloved 804 Day pup, has journeyed to the Rainbow Bridge. He lived a life full of tail wags and endless cuddles, and we’re grateful for the joy he brought to Richmond. Rest in peace, sweet boy. 🌈🐶

Every single one of us is filled with gratitude after the love we shared on Friday. Before Mother Nature so rudely interrupted the festivities, Shockoe Bottom was brimming with kick ass music, old friends, new friends, pups, artistry, do-gooders, investors in the community and more! 🎶 🐾 🤗

The number of emails and texts we've received conveying appreciation and support of what we do just lights us up inside. 💌 ✨

Meet Richmond’s New Dog Ambassador, Bunky 🐾
Bunky Wins Vote to Become the Official Dog of 804 Day 🏆

Bunky, a half-blind rescue dog with a job, a three-doctor medical team, and acting credits that include two Super Bowl commercials, has won the vote to become Richmond’s Official Dog of 804 Day 🤩

His victory comes handily after receiving thousands of votes in a competition with more than 100 worthy, four-legged competitors. He’s now tapped to ceremonially kick off 804 Day: Richmond’s Biggest Block Party on Friday, Aug. 2, from 4-9 p.m.

The Shockoe Records team has been hard at work since 804 Day last year planning this event to be even bigger and better! Keep an eye out for us in our Shockoe Records merch at the event working as stage crew, at the merch tent, and the volunteer booth! ❤️

Shockoe Records aims to disrupt today’s unsupportable music business model with a focus on amplifying the voices of artists, bringing forth a wide mix of voices and musicians from varied racial, ethnic and gender identity backgrounds. This involves a more cooperative approach than that of top-down management of traditional labels. Shockoe Records provides artists with more autonomy, and most importantly, does not, and will not ever own an artist’s intellectual property. The Shockoe Records team wants its curated roster of artists to not only survive, but to thrive. 🎶

Ultimately, Shockoe Records plans to expand the music community by nurturing talented artists, connecting them with local businesses, educating through mentorship, and promoting new music in our schools. The foundational purpose will always be to provide support for the Richmond area’s musicians and the music they make.
