There are moments in life that change everything. For our family, that moment came when my sister received the gift of a new kidney. We cried tears of gratitude because we knew this was nothing short of a miracle. But what many people do not see is what comes after the surgery.
Healing does not end in the hospital. It begins at home, in the quiet moments, when the bills still come, the medications are still needed, and life does not pause even though her body must.
My sister has been told she will be unable to work for at least six to eight months while her body adjusts and recovers. During this time, she still has rent to pay, lights to keep on, food to put on the table, and life-saving medication she cannot go without. As her sister, I am doing everything I can to carry this weight for her, but I cannot do it alone.
I am raising funds to help cover her basic living needs while she focuses on what truly matters right now: staying alive, staying healthy, and healing.
These funds will help with:
• Medication so this miracle continues to work
• Rent so she does not lose her home
• Utilities so she can rest in comfort
• Food so her body has the nourishment it needs
Our goal is to raise $15,000 to support her through the first six months of recovery. Any amount beyond that will go toward covering the remainder of her healing journey.
And if we are blessed to raise more than what is needed for her care, we have created something special in her honor called the TDA Overflow Fund, named after my sister, Teresa Devonne Auston. Through this fund, every additional dollar will go toward supporting the friends she met at the DaVita Dialysis Center who are still walking their own journeys toward healing. These are people she prayed with, sat beside, and encouraged through some of the hardest days of their lives. People who are still showing up for treatment, still hoping for their miracle, and still needing to feel seen and supported.
What began as a prayer for my sister has now become a promise to help others. Through the TDA Overflow Fund, Teresa’s blessing will not stop with her. It will become hope, comfort, and help for those still waiting for their breakthrough.
