Who are the faces behind The Study Wine Bar/Purity Wine? Since we're new here, we wanted to share a little about the mom (Barrie) and pop (Noel) behind our mom and pop business.
After years in the restaurant industry, Noel as a server, sommelier and wine buyer, and Barrie as a special events manager, we decided to start our own business to build upon our passion for farming, wine and hospitality. In 2013, Purity Wine was born. The name reflects our ethos of the importance of ecology. We strive for purity, understanding it is an ongoing pursuit, not perfection. We are a natural winery, working with natural yeasts and bacteria, and minimizing sulfur use to let the grapes speak for themselves. We farm a vineyard in Santa Rosa with 120+ year old Zinfandel vines and source fruit from across Northern California, working with farmers aligned with our organic approach.
At our winery in Richmond, we produce natural wines under our Purity label and for custom crush clients, host private events and a bi-annual wine fair called By The Way. We share our home with 20 winemakers as part of the Richmond Wine Collective, which started as an incubator providing an inclusive space for small winemakers to learn, share ideas and build community. Noel also teaches a year-long wine school that provides students with hands-on experience in all aspects of the wine industry from ecology, vineyard work, harvest, bottling and sales and marketing. Students learn how to create their own wine business and can leave the program with 300 bottles of wine they produced themselves, including custom labels.
We look forward to connecting with you, helping you celebrate special moments in your life, sharing a glass of wine and building lasting friendships.
Cheers,
Barrie and Noel
