DJ Wedding Tip:
How do we find a wedding DJ that’s right for us as a couple?

The most important question I have couples ask is not “what kind of music do you play, or can you play this particular genre?” A good wedding DJ should be able to do this. I’ve played almost all genres from R&B, Hip Hol, Country, Pop, Polka , etc! The better question to ask is “How will you take the vision of our party that we have in our minds, and make it a reality?” This opens up a lot of exciting possibilities and really ask the DJ to layout their game plan of how they will accomplish this, and then you can decide if this is the right fit for you.
There are lots of other ways besides this to like their experience, where they live/grew up, sometimes even their ethnic background if the wedding calls for specific cultural needs.

Generally, the LEAST important way to pick a DJ is PRICE (though many couples elevate this as a deciding factor). The wedding industry is very “get what you pay for”, and if you choose a cheap DJ that has little experience or reviews, often clients will be left disappointed.

1. Are you open to us curating a playlist of some songs and taking suggestions?
2. Can you create special remixes for certain songs?
3. How are you as an emcee; will you be able to emcee throughout the night and keep the crowd hyped?
4. What’s included in your packages?
5. Do you have lighting options that can be added on?

Wedding Tip of the day

I was ask why a wedding DJ price is different from a Birthday Party DJ

The reasons why wedding DJ costs are higher than something like a birthday party is really simple – it’s 5 times the work. Wedding and event prep is a crucial part of what we do. That’s also why weddings and corporate events are more expensive than just a regular party.

Although there is preparation for both events, there is way more hours of preparation when it’s for a wedding. There are hours of planning and organizing the music for a wedding. There are cue points where there are special songs that are being played during the reception. The introduction, 1st dance, mother/ son, father/daughter dance, bridal party song,etc. Today it is more common for DJ’s to play not only the reception , but for the wedding as well, a lot of the time having 2 set ups.

DJ’s have to load their equipment, drive to the event, unload at least 2 hours before event, set up (if it’s an outside wedding have 2 set ups), do sound checks, set up lights, most of the time we become the coordinator for the reception, play music with no breaks, emcee the event, read the crowd, follow original plans, follow last minute changes, and at end of the night after all guest have left, tear down all equipment, load, get home and unload.
So, as you can also see,there is about 5-6 hours of not Djing time that goes into the prep for the event, including packing up, traveling, music prep, and client contact.

We also have to factor in travel cost, wear and tear on the equipment, having the right set up for your special day, we purchase music, insurance, the time spent organizing music alone takes hours!!!
We most of time have great facility organizers and organizer, but there are times we have to deal with their arrogance!

So, as you see, there is a big difference between just djing a party and a wedding! You can always go with your friend down the street who plays music or you can go with someone with experience djing weddings and pay them what they are worth!

A great wedding DJ will be flexible and communicate clearly with the Bride and Groom. They should have an approachable personality and show evidence of their experience in the industry. The DJ is more than the music they play at your wedding; they also need to be comfortable interacting with your wedding guests.

Get an experienced and fun DJ for your wedding reception.
Tip for the day!

Take into consideration that the dj isn’t just playing music like some people think! There is so much preparation that takes place before the reception. It can sometimes take hours to organize a music playlist. So when a dj ask for a list of songs that you definitely want to hear, do so. Do so, in a timely manner as well. This is your day and you only get this moment once! The Dj wants to know what songs you like that are going to get you up and dancing. This makes it easier for the dj to read the crowd as well!

If you are planning a wedding, did you know you can save money on a venue and vendors by having the wedding on a Friday or Sunday, basically on a day other than Saturday!
