WHAT IS IN THE NAME?
“1883 Locale” is our way of honoring history and legacy. The building at 7345 East Main Street was built in the year 1883 during the civil war and was a part of the Underground Railroad leading people to freedom. That same year is when the courts finally ruled slavery as unlawful. The building itself holds entrepreneurial history with Connells Hardware being the oldest business in the state of Ohio for many years. The Connell family introduced many firsts, like selling single items on a peg board.
The Vickers Family legacy is also one we honor and want to carry out in our mission and why. Hollis and Louise, Christene Logesky’s grandparents, were among the firsts to introduce pizza shops to Ohio. They worked hard to establish their business and it has carried on for two generations already. With Vick’s Pizza being below “1883 Locale” and colliding with Connells legacy it seems only fitting to take it a step all the way back to the beginning. We want to remember 1883 and that FREEDOM is the core reason our families have carried on the legacy they have and will continue to. This building was built with freedom and fun in mind and our business is too, we will carry that legacy at our core.
