I would like to share some information with floral customers. Hopefully, this will enlighten you. Quite often, we have customers call the shop wanting to order a standing easel floral spray for a funeral. No problem on our end at all. However, they are wanting to order an easel spray for $100-125. They are floored when we tell them that entry level pricing for an easel spray is $150 which consisted of basic greenery and entry level flowers…. ie: glads, carnations, daisies and mums. If they would like higher end flower content such as roses, lilies, hydrangeas, lisianthus etc, starting price point is $175 and up. I would like to show you why. This individual standing 60” metal easel alone has a wholesale cost to us of $15.15 which means it retails to you for $30.30. Next is a picture of same easel with an Oasis Cage attached which is the mechanism that holds the floral design. The wholesale cost for it is $10.85, retail cost to you is $21.70. So, the two together are $53.00 before we ever put 1 stem of any greenery in it. So, fast forward to placing basic greens of robellini, leather and ruscus and very quickly you arrive at a $75-80 price point before one flower is placed in it. Next…. Please don’t forget that we do have to pay a florist for their labor, average pay for a florist is $20-25 per hour on the low end. It takes an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes to complete an easel. So, realistically, your price point is at $95-100 before you EVER place a flower. I would really like everyone to think about this information, it’s not hard to understand that the floral industry is struggling just as every other industry around us. Please be understanding, our $ does not buy us what it bought in the past. A shop cannot keep its door open if they don’t adjust their pricing accordingly with their cost of perishable goods, supplies and labor. Please give this some thought….
With love,
