Poetry That Works

Poetry That Works Poems are the rhythm of the heart. Good poetry connects us and brings us together. Happy Reading, Happy Questing, Happy Exploring, Happy Jesting !!

Phillip has been writing poems for decades and some may make you chuckle, laugh, or giggle. Reading poems and stories is a key way to connect with others and to build bridges between each other through shared adventures, tales, and happenings.

Flashback Friday to JCWK Dance Lab’s “Harvest Moon” video/ zoom/ dance/ music experiment. As we move forward, we continue to reflect on the journey.

This image contains a photo of the moon by Jill Haley and a screen shot of a Zoom-dance moment, performed by Sarena Gable and guided by Jessica Warchal-King.

Harvest Moon was an evening-length, virtual, new music and dance collaboration that premiered in conjunction with the astronomical calendar’s Harvest Moon, September 2021. Dancers and musicians employed the serendipitous and unpredictable nature of the internet to engage Zoom as a compositional and choreographic tool. Harvest Moon reflects on lunar cycles, cultural anthropology, the spiritual philosophy that human bodies are microcosms of the universe, and the Covid-19 pandemic. The project was live-streamed over YouTube with audience engagement opportunities through Zoom after each performance. As the moon reflects the light of the sun, Zoom allowed us to reflect each other.

Jill Haley created “Glacial Albedo” for this project with support from Reading Musical Foundation.

Great work by the students of - half way through a few garbled lines are: “Gentle is the caress of a bright, lonely night. Sweet is the darkness against the light. God protecting you from the dark, you can feel the glow…”
