Another iconic member of Reading's skyline; the Abe Lincoln Hotel. Built in the wake of the Great Depression, it opened to the public on May 23rd, 1930. Many notable people stayed here over the decades, including John Kelly, Duke Ellington, and Andre the Giant, who allegedly consumed a record number of beers and passed out on the floor of the lobby where he slept until morning. It was also the death place of famous composer John Philip Sousa who suffered a heart attack in his hotel room here in 1932.

It ceased hotel operations in 2016 and was redeveloped into apartments by Shuman Development Group. More in comments 👇
