If you grew up bowling around here, chances are you bowled in one of Al Blough's places. Colonial Hills, Hiester Lanes, Berks Lanes. Al ran them all at one point or another. He stuck with the bowling business for over 60 years, right up until he sold his last centers in 2021. He was PA's Bowling Proprietor of the Year and ran the state proprietors association for a stretch too. And for a guy who did all this, he is about as easy to talk to as anybody you'll meet.

So imagine how happy we were when Al offered to help us with our latest project. We are restoring the old lanes at the former Elks Club at Trexler Mansion, and the expert helped us with details. One of the best parts is that we are keeping them the old way, the way it was before automatic was an option. Pins set by hand. No automation.

We could have put in pinsetters, but some history is worth keeping the way it was. And Al is really the best person to have in your corner for this.

One thing we should say up front. This is not going to be a bowling alley. The lanes are inside the former Elks Club at Trexler Mansion, and the mansion is an event venue. So if you've got a party or a reunion coming up, or your office could use a night out, you book the place and the lanes are part of it. We're holding space for summer 2027 and the wait list for dates is open now.

Comment EVENTS below and we'll save you a spot in line for the first available dates. We'll have pricing out before the end of the year, and once you're ready to lock in a date, a deposit holds it.

Some of you had your sweet sixteen here, your company's holiday party, the retirement dinner nobody wanted to end.

Here's the part we've been most excited to share.

The Abraham Lincoln was the first door. Today it has company.

Abraham Lincoln Events is now Venues of Reading: the ballroom you know, plus an 1832 church, an 1869 mansion with a hand-set bowling alley, and a guest house for the people who came from far away. All a few blocks apart, and restored by the same team.

Everyone asks about the hotel, so here's the answer: upstairs is apartments now. Downstairs, the chandeliers shine brighter than ever.
The Abe is booking now. The rest open late 2026 and 2027, and the waitlist is where the first dates go.
