In his lifetime the little-known, Swansea-born
artist Count Albert de Belleroche rubbed shoulders
with Degas, Renoir and Toulouse Lautrec, as
well as being a lifelong friend of John Singer
Sargent. A ground-breaking exhibition and
catalogue raisonné is finally putting the unsung
painter on the map.
Two artists, one story an a lifelong companionship.
John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) and Count Albert de Belleroche (1864-1944), after having met at the Calorus Duran studio in Paris began a lifelong friendship between
their shared studios in London and Paris. Sargent, 8 years older than Belleroche, had created a muse of Belleroche, fitting him as the subject of many early
portraits by the famed artist.
An exhibit will be on display along with some loaned pieces by John Singer Sargent from the Sargent House in Gloucester
