A small note from Westwood Flower Farm

This season, I’m choosing a slightly quieter way of tending this little farm and my life around it.

Have you noticed how much gets lost in the scroll, no matter how often someone posts? I’ve learned that spending time trying to stay visible online does not feel aligned for me, so I’m going to embrace what feels right and trust word of mouth. It feels freeing.

This spring’s daffodils were truly beautiful, and with the warmth they have now finished for the year. I loved sharing them, especially delivering flowers to beloved residents at nursing homes in our area. Those moments brought real joy.

This spring I grew lots of wave petunias for family and friends for Mother's Day, and I’m learning that the joy of growing flowers, for me, is in sharing them with the people I care about.

Here on the farm, the dahlia season is underway behind the scenes, with tubers pre‑sprouting and beds being tended. Blooms typically arrive later in July and continue until the first frost. I’ll be sharing with a few florists who appreciate locally grown flowers, a local family-owned nursery I have shopped at for years, and with those who find their way here through connections.

With a full time career, this farm, and a family I care deeply for, I’m choosing a season that doesn’t rush past, one that leaves room to be present for the people and the flowers growing right in front of me.

Last April, daffodils I didn’t plant surprised me. They show up early, ask for nothing, and come back every spring. Perfect. I planted hundreds. Sweet Layla pitched in to help. Who knew the humble daffodil could look like this? Can’t wait for what’s under the snow. ❄️ 💛

May your holidays be rooted in places and moments that matter. This year’s tree hunt led us past a foggy pond at an old family homestead—one that Alan’s great employer saved from development. Walking these woods with the dogs, finding our perfectly imperfect tree, and watching Alan brave the ladder for Christmas lights…these are some of the traditions that fill our cup. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Dahlia form, stripped bare. Black and white settles the noise- no distractions, just structure. It creates a texture you want to touch and photographs beautifully.

Coming Soon: The Signature Collection

With the farm tucked in for winter, I can finally share what's been living in my head—ten signature dahlia-focused palettes for the 2026 wedding season. (I know I've been working on them too long when a pink grapefruit or a white sweater reminds me of a specific palette.)

We're starting with "I'm Your Huckleberry"—a tribute to Idaho, our beloved home. Inspired by alpine snow and mountain berries. Here's a sneak peek.

The full collection spans cool, warm, neutral, and complementary tones. No Pinterest paralysis—just ten curated options designed to make this clear, simple, and fun. One will speak to you in a way you'll feel, not just see.

Product tiers and pricing packages coming soon for August and early September 2026 weddings.

This morning in snowy Anchorage, I ordered a latte to warm up at the Alaska Farm Bureau meeting. The color stopped me—it was warm and pretty and reminded me of the prolific apricot dahlias that lit up the farm this summer.

Robert Frost wrote that "nothing gold can stay," and maybe that's what makes dahlias—and other things we love in life—so precious. They bloom for a season, calling us to show up and pay attention while they're here. It was a good reminder as life moves fast.

Planning a late summer wedding (end of July through early September)? Let's talk dahlias.

Soaking up this sunny weekend, working on dahlia plans and time in the saddle! ☀️

I'm putting the touches on warm and cool mood boards with color palettes to match the 2026 harvest season to help brides visualize their dream weddings with florals. With so many stunning varieties from breeders I admire, no wonder it's so hard to choose! Every form, every color – dahlias are truly where my heart is in the flower family.

2026 is going to be incredible! Whatever fills your cup this weekend, I hope you get to do plenty of it. Happy weekend, everyone!
