When and why did you become a Master? How long did the process take?
I became a Master Wedding Planner in October 2019 at the 2019 ABC Conference at Sandals Royal Bahamian. I wanted to be a Master Wedding Planner because I knew I had the knowledge, education and the leadership that one must possess to show that I was a Master. I had been a member of ABC for over 9 years in which I had always intended not stopping until I became a Master. Every time I had points or did something that I thought was “point worthy”, I would contact the Education Director to see what more could I do to achieve more. I had over 15 years of experience in the wedding industry and I know that I am an important asset to my community. Moreover, I want to mentor and share my experience with other wedding planners and assist the ones that are coming up, who also share the goals of becoming a Master Wedding Planner. I feel that It is my personal responsibility to be available as I would like to do more to help those who are coming up behind us!
How do you give back to the industry or community?
I serve as the Director of the ABC Baltimore Local Networking Group and an active participate on the Leadership Team. Additionally, I am a member of Evening Star Chapter#20, Myra Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall affiliate in Maryland and its Jurisdiction. The Vice President of the Kimberleigh Development Association, Recruitment Chair of the Greater Baltimore Alzheimer’s Association and Recruitment Chair of the ALS Association Baltimore group.
What advice do you have for new planners?
My advice to new planners is that being affiliated with an association like ABC is not only important, it is worth the investment. I would also encourage new planners stop learning and growing. The more that you educate yourself, the more you show that you are the expert in your profession. I take time to take classes and learn something new every opportunity that I can. Sometimes, it may not even be something new, sometimes it’s the way that someone else teaches a topic that will make you like at it in a different approach.
