Our Story - The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe

The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, a rustic boutique resort perched atop the hills overlooking San Diego, was founded in 1923 and designed by a young Lilian Rice to house the railroad company’s citrus farmers as well as travelers. The 21-acre property’s simplistic Spanish-California architecture integrates harmoniously into the natural landscape to create a serene country escape.

LOCATION

The Inn is the social and focal center of the tranquil village of Rancho Santa Fe, a San Diego north county town characterized by lush foliage, towering eucalyptus, winding roads and historic buildings. Hot air balloons float over this hamlet in the hills of horse country and its dark sky policy means uninterrupted nighttime stargazing. Though just a 30-minute drive from Downtown San Diego and the airport, Rancho Santa Fe feels worlds away.

Guests of The Inn are truly in the heart of horse county and just minutes from Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, San Diego Polo Club and numerous riding trails. Guests enjoy playing privileges at the world-famous Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club, access to the distinguished Rancho Santa Fe Tennis Club, convenience to Del Mar or Solana Beaches, nature trails, and all that San Diego’s north county has to offer.
