After filming weddings for nearly twenty years, certain themes keep appearing.

Not the color palettes.

Not the trends.

Not the things that looked beautiful for a moment.

The things people wish they protected.

The moments they wish they slowed down for.

The words they wish they had written down.

Rod & Amy Brind’Amour’s Wedding Film | Why I Chose Not to Re-Edit It

When I first watched this film again, the creator in me immediately started making notes.

I could shorten this.

Re-edit that.

Change the pacing.

Update the style.

Sixteen years is a long time.

A lot has changed.

The way I film.

The way I tell stories.

The equipment.

The experience.

The person behind the camera.

But the more I watched, the more I realized this film wasn’t supposed to be updated.

It was supposed to be remembered.

This wedding happened exactly once.

This film was created in that season.

By that version of me.

And there is something beautiful about preserving it exactly as it was.

Growth is a gift.

But so is remembrance.

You aren’t trying to rewrite your past.

You’re learning how to honor it.

Because some stories are worth preserving exactly as they were.

This bag has been with me since 2007.

Before Heartstone.

Before the awards.

Before the destination weddings.

Before filming more than 800 weddings.

It originally belonged to the previous owner of the wedding company I bought at twenty-three.

The faded Barton Creek sticker is still hanging on.

So is the bag.

Last week, while getting ready to film another wedding, I looked down and realized something.

This same bag was sitting beside me at Rod and Amy’s wedding sixteen years ago.

It was there before Heartstone had a name.

It was there for some of the biggest moments of my career.

It has traveled thousands of miles, carried countless microphones, and quietly sat in the background of hundreds of love stories.

The sticker has faded over the years.

But I never peeled it off.

Because some things become more than equipment.

They become reminders.

A quiet reminder of where you started.

And every once in a while, it’s good to remember that.

Stories worth remembering.

Films worth keeping.

Saturday, while filming a wedding, I kept seeing videos from the Hurricanes celebration.

Thousands of people cheering.

A Stanley Cup.

A city celebrating.

And there was Rod Brind’Amour holding the trophy.

Most people were seeing a championship.

I was remembering a wedding.

Sixteen years ago, I filmed Rod and Amy’s wedding.

It was my first major athlete wedding, and if I’m being honest, I barely slept the night before.

I was so nervous.

Then I walked into the bridal suite and met Amy.

Instantly, every nervous feeling disappeared.

She was joyful, funny, kind, and the kind of person who lights up every room she enters.

I remember thinking, “This is going to be a good day.”

One of the things I remember most about that wedding happened before the ceremony.

Because of the church’s restrictions, Amy and Rod recorded private messages to each other before the wedding.

What stayed with me wasn’t any particular sentence.

It was realizing they both referenced the same inside joke without knowing what the other had said.

Separate rooms.

No script.

No preparation.

Just two people who knew each other so well that their messages fit together perfectly.

And later, when Rod saw Amy for the first time…

His reaction was one of the most genuine moments I’ve ever captured.

Saturday, watching him hold the Stanley Cup, I wasn’t thinking about hockey.

I was thinking about that look.

That moment.

That wedding.

Congratulations, Rod and Amy.

I’ve been cheering you on ever since.

I saw a bride go viral for dedicating a song to her cats at her wedding reception.

My immediate thought?

“Honestly… same.”

There was one guest, one very honored member of the bridal party, I was especially excited to see on my wedding day.

No offense to everyone else.

Especially my groom.

Keeko had a custom tux, walked down the aisle, appeared in the wedding portraits, and even had his own signature drink.

After filming weddings for years, I’ve noticed something:

The moments people remember aren’t always the grand entrances, expensive details, or perfectly timed events.

They’re the personal things.

The things that make a wedding uniquely yours.

Because the details that matter most are usually the most personal.

A few days ago, I shared a wedding film where a bride noticed something she’d never seen before.

Nine years later, while rewatching their film, she realized her husband did the famous Mr. Darcy hand flex during their first look.

It got me thinking…

Same venue.
Same crew.
Back at it with my favorites

The real star of the day was Finn the doodle, who immediately became my best friend.

I was locked and loaded with my Sony, DJI, 8mm, and enough gear to cover just about anything.

Then one of the guys showed us his new iPhone 17 rig setup with lenses and all.
He filmed a few clips and I was honestly blown away.
Now I need one immediately.

Also, there is a developing situation…

My ankles are better, 2 days later.

Ankle update:
Still swollen.
Still standing. 💪🏻

Nine years later, she noticed something in their first look.

While rewatching their wedding film, Maggie realized Harry did the famous Mr. Darcy hand flex without even realizing it.

A tiny moment.
A nervous gesture.
A glimpse of just how much he loved her.

Most people won’t get it.

But the girlies that do will GET IT.

Happy 9th Anniversary, Maggie & Harry.

This is why we preserve moments. Sometimes the details that matter most aren’t discovered until years later.
