“Summer Strings Pops in the Park!” A glimpse of one of the summer camps as they kicked off the beginning of this week - This camp is a collaboration with and Wake County Public Schools. With a goal of providing student musicians with an opportunity to develop their musicianship skills when school is not in session, the camp will culminate in a performance of pops music in the picturesque McIver Amphitheater. The staff is Wake County strings educators and faculty, with some of our current Meredith strings students assisting. The music to be performed includes pops and film score music geared toward students who have played for around 1-2 years.

Dear Music Students, Parents, Faculty, Alumnae and Supporters. Thank you for the many messages of concern following the news stories about staff cuts at Meredith. We did experience one loss - June Cassell, who has run our Community School of Music for over 20 years, was told yesterday that her position has been eliminated. She was a much loved, hard-working and valuable member of our music family, and we will miss her deeply.
Natalie Overton, our amazing Music Administrative Assistant, was not cut, and she is making a Herculean effort to learn June’s significant job. I feel confident that the Meredith Community School of Music will be able to continue to thrive and grow, as will our entire Meredith College Department of Music.

Meredith College Department of Music friends, check out the latest issue of the NCME magazine - especially the spread on advocacy, where students from Meredith College and Western Carolina University received leadership training, attended Hill Day in Washington, DC, and met with elected officials! Thank you to all of these students and leaders for being a voice for the importance and value of music and the arts!!!
