Yesterday was a very stressful day! Lots to do and not enough time. I was trying to get deliveries done and couldn't get out the door. My car had been loaded for about an hour and a half. Along with the flowers, my husband with dementia and my daughter with a traumatic brain injury were patiently waiting. Meanwhile, the phone kept ringing, ups showed up for their pick up. I had to do their manifest. A couple of people showed up last minute with package to be processed and the computer was updating tables. It was one delay after another and finally I was on my way. My first stop was the hospital for a patient delivery. The front door was already locked so I had to go around to emergency and instead of dropping it off with the front desk. I had to walk all the way to the back to the patients room. When I found my recipient she was very alert and in no distress. She asked if I would read the card to her and I told her I would be happy to do it. We engaged in a short conversation and she told me several times how beautiful her flowers were. They were from her grandchildren and she was very aware of who they were from and how much she was loved. She was a very sweet lady and she was smiling when I left. I told her to get well soon and that I hoped she wouldn't have to be in there too much longer. I continued with my deliveries and got home finally around 7:30 and set to work fixing a birthday dinner for another daughter and granddaughter who were on their way. After a pleasant evening I pretty much passed out. I'd sent my delivey confirmations along with an email to the sender of the one that went to the hospital sharing about my visit with her grandmother and fell in bed exhausted. I woke up a few minutes ago and checked emails. I was absolutely stunned to read that 4 hours after I delivered her flowers that sweet lady passed away! I shared all this to say just one thing. Often we get so caught up in the business of the day that we overlook he importance of the moment. Please do not in your busyness neglect the impulse to tell someone you're thinking of them that you love them or how much they mean to you. Do not neglect to be kind to a stranger or to smile at them or say hello. Pick up the phone and call that one that's on your mind because you never know if that will be your last opportunity. God in very often in the little things nudging us in the right direction. Act on those impulses. You won't be sorry. . I am so glad He gave me this opportunity to bring a smile to this lady in the sunset of her last day on earth.
