The 2023 Light Up The Night (LUTN) Tree Lighting event will be held in downtown Punta Gorda on December 1, 2023. This annual beloved community event will begin at 5:30 pm with live entertainment throughout the evening until 9:30 pm. The 32-foot-tall tree will be “officially” lit at 7:00 pm. Taylor Street from Retta Esplanade to Sunloft Center entrance and West Marion Ave from 41 North to 41 South will be closed beginning at 9 am Friday, December 1 and reopen overnight. The event has historically attracted over 4000 people and this year’s attendance is expected to be even larger.

The live entertainment includes the combined elementary school choirs, middle school choir, Charlotte high school Charisma school choir, dance troupes, a new young solo artist Josie Salvitii, the Punta Gorda Symphony, and Marker 5 band. A 9 x 16 jumbotron centrally located will help all attendees appreciate the stage performances and tree lighting.

Food trucks feeding the hungry crowd in addition to your favorite downtown restaurants will include Brown’s Food factory, Maine Line, Say Cheese Curd Company, Grace’s Taste of Poland, Harbor Walk Scoops and Bites, Dawg Pound hot dogs, and the Big Star Entertainment beer and beverage tent.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in their tent to meet with the children. Costumed Disney and holiday characters will be on hand in designated areas and roaming the crowd for photo opportunities. The venue also includes three snow machines and two bounce houses.

The landscaping on the north side of Marion Avenue will be decorated in Holiday lights and lighted trees to add to the festive air.
New activities for this year’s event include a 50/50 raffle, a new dramatic lead in for the 7:00 pm tree lighting, and a special appearance from the Punta Gorda symphony.

This annual event is funded and planned by the all-volunteer staff of the 501c3 organization P G Light Up the Tree Inc. Other Fund-Raising events leading up to the tree lighting celebration include a a private wine tasting event on Friday, November 3 hosted by Total Wine and More.
