Phew!! We made it through the last few weekends!! Now that I have a minute....I'd like to thank everyone for your kind words and messages when I posted about my "rough day" last week.
Sometimes as a small business owner it's easy to feel invisible. You put your all into your craft. Talent, passion and emotion. It's easy for someone to say..."It's just business, it's not personal". That is never the case in a small hometown shop.
Yesterday I had a Dad bring his two littles in to get flowers for their Mom. They have shopped with us before and the girls were looking to say hi to the shop cat Calla Lily. I really enjoyed waiting on them and (dont tell my insurance agent- which yes, I know your are reading this), they came into the back room with me to check things out and watch as I put the vase arrangement together. The Dad kept reminding them to "not touch", be respectful, etc. It is never my intent to contradict a parent but I said..."They are fine. I raised 3 kids in this place...etc." The girls were so adoreable I gave them each a small box of chocolates. (With Dad's permission. Its easy to get by spelling c-a-n-d-y.)
Upon leaving the Dad thanked me. He said it was nice to be able to bring the girls to a shop and not have to worry about their actions/etc. I told him,..."That is what hometown shops are all about."
Thank you for supporting me all these years. Thank you for making me the hometown florist. After 30 years this May, you all have travelled this journey with me. I appreciate that more than you know. Flowershops and trained florists are a dying breed. Everytime another one closes, I know the potential is there that that too could be me. (Sandy Creek just lost their shop. Phoenix just lost a long time shop.) There is so much competition in our industry and I know you all have so many other options/choices.
That all being said, when you all reached out, I felt visible and it meant more than you know. Thanks for keeping my doors open, the lights on and the ๐ฑ fed!
