People often assume great photographs start with a camera.

The truth is they start with trust.

When Kori came into the studio looking to build a portfolio for modeling opportunities, we had never worked together before. Within minutes, though, the conversation flowed naturally, the nerves disappeared, and what started as a photo session became a collaboration.

Photography is certainly about lighting, posing, composition, and understanding your equipment. But just as important is creating an environment where someone feels comfortable enough to be themselves in front of the lens.

For many people, stepping in front of a camera can feel vulnerable. My goal is always to make the process enjoyable, encouraging, and confidence-building from beginning to end.

Because when people feel comfortable, confidence follows.

And confidence photographs beautifullyšŸ–¤

Over the course of two weeks, my studio becomes filled with movement, emotion, creativity, nerves, excitement, exhaustion, confidence, and growth. What makes these sessions so special to me isn’t just the photographs — it’s the relationships built over the years with these dancers, instructors, and families.

Some of these kiddos I’ve photographed since they were tiny.

Now I watch them walk into the studio carrying themselves like artists.

That’s the beautiful thing about dance.
And honestly, the beautiful thing about photography too.

You blink… and suddenly years have passed.

So thankful for Evolve Studio for the Arts and for another incredible spring šŸ¤sessiontogether. šŸ¤

And just like that… senior season comes to an end.

Tomorrow night, another class walks across the stage and another chapter closes.
Jaden was my final senior session of this graduation season, and I knew before we ever picked up a camera this one was going to be special.

During our consultation, #41 by Dave Matthews Band came on the playlist — both of our favorite songs. We looked at each other, nodded in agreement, and without saying much more both knew:

This session was going to be epic.

And it was.

The thing I love most about senior portraits is they become so much more than photographs. They become pieces of a story.

The golfer chasing one more sunset on the course.

The young man preparing for service with the Alabama Air National Guard.

The cowboy hat.
The quiet moments.
The confidence.
The future waiting ahead.

Tomorrow the cap and gown come out.

Tonight, these are the moments in between.

Congratulations, Jaden — and congratulations to every senior walking into tomorrow night carrying years of memories behind them and endless possibilities ahead.

It feels impossible to put almost eighteen years into words.

Before he ever picked up drumsticks bigger than his hands, music had already found him. At just two years old, Dominic sat behind a drum set for the first time… and he never really looked back.

Music became more than an interest. It became part of who he is.
Through marching band, concert band, jazz band, long rehearsals, performances, competitions, friendships, and countless hours of practice, Prattville High School helped shape this chapter of his story. Being awarded the John Philip Sousa Band Award for outstanding achievement and dedication to instrumental music was such a meaningful reflection of the work, passion, and heart he has poured into it all.

And now…
Auburn University awaits.

This fall he begins pursuing Music Education, carrying his passion into the next chapter and hopefully inspiring others through the same gift that shaped him.
As parents, there’s excitement… and there’s also that quiet ache of realizing these years move far too quickly.

We’re proud beyond words of the young man he has become.

The musician.
The student.
The leader.
The son.

We’re going to miss having him home every day… but we cannot wait to see what comes next.

One of the coolest parts about this job is getting to watch families grow through the years.

A few years ago, I photographed Mason’s sister for her senior portraits, and now here we are again documenting another huge milestone for their family. That kind of full-circle moment never gets old to me.

What made this session so fun was how unapologetically Mason was from start to finish.

Mud riding through the creek in a graduation cap and gown, standing tall beside the truck he loves, western roots, quiet confidence, and those Alabama summer sunsets that somehow feel frozen in time when you’re this age.

These sessions are always about more than photos.

They’re about capturing a season of life before everything changes.
The hometown roads.
The hobbies.
The freedom.
The personality.

The version of yourself you’ll one day look back on and miss a little.

Often times photography reminds you that perfect conditions don’t create meaningful images.

Connection does.

When I met Ava and her family for the first time, we had this vision of glowing sunlight, warm skies, and a sunset pouring through the trees around her home.

Instead, the clouds rolled in and stayed all evening long.

As photographers, we naturally chase light. We wait for it, plan for it, and hope for it.
But honestly… Ava never needed it.

She brought her own presence to every frame.

There was something incredibly genuine about this session — moments in the grass, the quiet beauty of home, the Alabama countryside, her graduation cap resting against the evening sky, and even the family tractor and her doggy becoming part of her story. Nothing felt forced. It simply felt like her.

And in the end, that’s what senior portraits should be. My work would be so unfulfilling to me if every session I did reminded me of the last.

Not perfection.
Not trends.

Just a season of life documented honestly before everything changesšŸ’™šŸ¤

I’ve had the privilege of capturing the Kervin family over the years… and this time, it felt different in the best way.

This time, it was Mylee’s turn.

We spent the evening walking the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham — taking our time, chasing light, and letting each moment unfold naturally. No rush, no pressure… just a chapter quietly coming to a close while another one waits just ahead.

And somewhere in between all of that, these images came to life.

Mylee, you made this session effortless.
Absolutely stunning in every frame — but more than that, fully yourself.
That’s what makes this season so special.

Some moments aren’t about perfection.

They’re about laughter that won’t sit still, tiny hands that won’t stay put, and the kind of joy you can’t pose.

This was one of those sessions.

A birthday, yes — but more than that, a moment in time that moves fast and never quite looks the same twice.

The kind of joy you don’t want to forget.

Over the years I’ve photographed weddings, families, artists, business owners, entrepreneurs, and people stepping into new chapters of their lives and careers.
Headshots are never just headshots to me.

They’re often tied to something bigger — a new business, a promotion, a rebrand, a fresh start, a big step forward.

Different stories, different paths, different personalities — but always the same goal:
to create a portrait that feels confident, natural, and true to who someone is.

People are always the most interesting thing to photograph.
