There’s a point during the wedding day when the mood shifts and the vibe goes from dinner to party! You know that time of the night right??!! Lighting plays such a huge part of that transformation. Lots & lots of lighting. On dimmers, of course and tons of candles. Gosh I love a good tent glow ✨✨

I’m not really in the mindset of posting about weddings today. I woke this morning feeling a little more lost in this world so I’ll share and talk about my chickens instead

One of the exciting parts about raising chickens for me was deciding on the flock I would bring home. So I read up on all the breeds, what colors their feathers would be and of course their egg colors because color just makes my world a better place 🌈 🌈🌈
Our most recent flock had several breeds. A couple domestic multi-colored Amerucanas, a beautiful black Australian Australorp, the prettiest Dutch Welsummer and a French Maran. Eggs with shades of brown and blue-ish green. From the day I brought them home they immediately became a strong flock and would depend on each other for warmth and protection

Since I never intended to breed these girls there was no need for a rooster. Ya know you don’t need a male bird to have a strong flock of hens. One girl always takes on the role of the leader and it was wonderful to see how they all just stick together foraging for ticks and grubs and huddling close every night for warmth. They needed no one else but each other

I’m still hurt everyday about the fox that came and took them away. Like I’ve said, this has never happened before. But it only took one fox to wipe almost all of them out. Even though I know someday I will gather another flock, I will still remember fondly these beautiful girls who were so brave, stuck together like glue and fed my family for almost 2 years. 🦊

It’s taken me almost two months to share what happened to my chickens 🐓 Sadly back in August a fox got into our girls coop taking 5 of the 6 sisters. The latch wasn’t shut all the way and well ~ the fox is one smart cookie. I’ll spare you all the details as you can imagine it was tragic. In all the years raising chickens we have never lost one to a predators and we have seen our share of hawks, owls and fox.

The girls were like extended kids to my husband and I. We nurtured them from just days old, fed them, kept them warm and on occasion bathed them in our sink. They were greeted with a chat every morning. We would remind them how beautiful they are and how grateful we were for their eggs. Always made sure we saved our leftovers for them. Cool watermelon on hot days always made them happy 🍉🥬
This year has been so crazy and unpredictable. As unfortunate as it has been and I feel horrible about not keeping them safe, I know that Mother Nature is a strong force. The fox saw an opportunity to feed their family so they took it. I don’t blame them, but we loved them so & they brought us so much joy. We were the fortunate ones to have been their keeper. Enjoying their eggs and company 🥚 🍳
So today I’ll be “celebrating my girls” 🐓 in my stories! So many of you have appreciated our hens & expressed how much joy they bring when you see them. I hope they brighten a spot in your day today ❤️🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓

I am so sad to announce that I‘ll be leaving my beautiful studio this week. Since the pandemic started, I opted to bring my office back home as meetings in person are so very limited. I poured my heart into this space and most of you were right alongside me, cheering me on the whole way!! I’ll never forget the day I decided to paint the entire space black. All 900 sq ft of her. She is beautiful, welcoming, intriguing, and made me feel strong. I never wanted to leave her. Many, many late nights I spent here. Friendor collaborations, couple meetings, endless team discussions. It felt incredible to have my very own create space separate from my family and home. I was searching for that balance and in the studio I found it. 🖤However, 2020 threw everyone a curve ball. After much discussion and soul searching, I’ve decided not to let that curve ball control my creative mind. I’m embracing this change, grabbing it by the balls and screaming “I’m ready for whatever you throw at me”! I’m also admitting to lots of tears being shed, tons of cocktails, literal screams out loud and venting with my creative friends. Nevertheless, this was just one story in a book of many chapters. 🖤
Thank you to everyone that helped create this dream space for MRE. Especially my husband who literally painted every wall (twice), carried many heavy things up staircases that were too tight, handled all the tech stuff that I could care less about and was my biggest cheerleader the whole time. Your unconditional love & support is my greatest gift ever🖤
