This month our phenomenal array of lectures continues with one of the greatest magic minds of our time - there is a reason why he is one of the most sought after people by the biggest names in magic - working on the Carbonaro Effect, teaching at Tannens Magic Camp, and consulting with magicians worldwide - yes, I am talking about our very own Derrin Berger. If you ever wanted to elevate your magic to another level, you absolutely need to attend Tuesday, May 13th.
20-something tips for creating, problem solving, and designing magic
Derrin doesn't do lectures. He's not a lecturer. In fact, even HE is questioning what all this is about. He's not really qualified or in any position to give advice, yet somehow this is happening.
The truth is, he was asked to give a lecture. He's done it a few times over the years, and was recently asked to do another one. So, what better place to work that out than the Al Baker assembly?
Here's what you'll "learn" (casually watch while tapping on your phone after the first 5 minutes of sheer boredom):
Derrin has somehow managed to get himself tied up in all sorts of areas of magic. He's performed, he's consulted, and somehow gotten into conversations with some of the biggest names in magic. He even has some of their phone numbers. As fate would have it, he's been called on to create magic for TV, figure out some interesting magical problems, and use his general "vibe" to help people do magic better. It's a fluke, but it's a long-running fluke. So, before his luck runs out he's going to empty out part of his brain to make room for air-fryer dessert recipes. We'll see some of his approaches to solving problems, tips for getting "un-stuck", and a number of nuggets he's picked up along the way. Basically, it's what he said in the title.
So, if you've ever had a tough magic problem, or thought there was more you could do with a trick but didn't know where to start, or maybe just wanted to take a trick from A to A.5 (patent pending), this could be the night for you.
Oh, and there'll be a few hands-on things too.
Thank you Derrin! As per usual dinner will be at 6 pm if you want to join in, and the lecture will start at 7:30. Remember- you need to be both a member of Assembly 35 AND a current member of SAM National - otherwise it’s a $20 guest fee.
