Hello lovelies! Fae and fauns, selkies and sluagh! Something has gone very strange in the realm of Faerie and now our event page is no longer visible to all!

Like the glamours of old, this seems to be an ineffable magic, and linked to the Facebook end of things.

We have ensured the page and all posts are public, and yet the problem persists.

If you want to share the event (please do!!) please consider sharing this post and/or our ticketing site which has all the information about the show, and our Instagram which has all the lore and costume inspiration posts, as well as Champion (performer) profiles!

Blurb:
Misfit Academy and Speculative Drama are offering a two hour character building workshop with Creative Co-Director Megan Skye Hale.
Designed for all levels, and geared toward cabaret artists (drag, burlesque, circus, or other short performances), this workshop will guide you through practical steps to build a unique character for your short performances, and help you level up your storytelling!
Megan is an actor, director, producer, and clown with twenty years of experience creating original characters for the stage. Come down and join her for this exploration of archetype, posture, timing, and precision!
We'll explore technique through play, and you'll leave with practical skills to help define your character work, whether you're a seasoned professional or an absolute beginner.

Hope to see you there!

Did you know that we're part of a nonprofit?

And that that nonprofit is launching our first (100% tax deductible) fundraiser for Speculative Drama's upcoming tenth anniversary Shakespeare production?

We know that with the gutting of the NEA & dismantling of so many funding avenues for the arts by this current administration, our community is receiving a lot of asks for support, and we deeply appreciate every donation at any level!

Donating to small companies like us makes a huge difference, and your donation of $100, $25, or even $5 goes a long way toward our goal!

Portland's smallest theatre company Speculative Drama teams up with Portland's largest: Portland Center Stage, to produce an immersive, high-seas adventure in the Armory lobby this September. Bringing together the vaulting ceilings and balconies of the PCS Armory's central lobby, stylized puppetry and props, the absurdist humor of British humorist skits, and the visual style of 80s and 90s adventure films - this immersive production follows King Pericles on a journey through the seven seas in search of love and fortune in an exploration of class dynamics, what it means to be both a king and a man, and the struggle between power and personal fulfillment - all through the eyes of one very unreliable narrator, John Gower.

We have 100 days to raise $10,000 to put up this ambitious, site specific adventure on the high seas. That’s just $100 per day and YOU can help us get there!

What exactly is a "Night Carnival"?

One of Misfit Academy’s flagship productions and the cornerstone of our community engagement program, The Night Carnival is more than just a variety show, and beyond simply a legendary costume party.

The Night Carnival is an ongoing series of immersive, themed events inviting the audience directly into the action and encouraging a deep connection with the performances, fostering a sense of artistic adventure in audience and community performers alike.

For the last 13 years The Steep and Thorny Way to Heaven and Misfit Academy have produced and presented between 3 and 6 Night Carnivals per year, inviting performers and audiences alike to a themed cabaret-style variety show and costumes-encouraged cocktail party.

The Night Carnival is specifically designed to challenge audiences to engage with performance styles you may not normally encounter by creating an entire exquisite world for you to step into for the evening.

Each production includes on-theme performances from Portland’s world-class dance, circus, music, drag, burlesque, and performance art communities, and audience members are encouraged to participate by attending in an on-theme costume and immersing themselves in the world of the show.

Join us May 3rd for REBELLIONS ARE BUILT ON HOPE: A STAR WARS NIGHT CARNIVAL, our first Night Carnival of the year! Want to get involved? Check the link in the comments to submit as a performer, or join our discord to volunteer, learn more, and get behind-the-scenes sneak peeks at the process!
